DOOL alum Michael Sabatino, who played Lawrence Alamain on the soap, shared an update on his health after revealing a sad diagnosis last year. Keep reading to find out the latest on his health status.

Crystal Chappell Reveals Michael Sabatino’s Health Struggle

DOOL viewers first met Michael Sabatino when he joined the soap as villain Lawrence Alamain in 1990. He was introduced as the mystery man Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell) was supposed to marry. But Carly’s best friend, Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves,) took her place and married Lawrence instead. The storyline kicked off years of torment for the residents of Salem.

Eventually, Carly couldn’t resist Lawrence and admitted her feelings. At the same time, the actors were falling in love in real life. Michael Sabatino and Crystal Chappell married in 1997 and share two children together.

She revealed on social media in September that her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which is a progressive neurological disorder that affects mobility.

The Latest On His Health

After DOOL legend Drake Hogestyn’s passing in September 2024, soap fans can’t handle any more losses. Crystal Chappell and Michael Sabatino recently spoke to Swoon and shared an update on his health.

She told the outlet that her husband was doing “well.” He elaborated further with good news for fans.

“I feel pretty good. I have a really good doctor at Stanford [Medicine]. He’s given me meds that kind of control any type of tremors. I’m lucky because I’m in really good shape. I’m pretty strong,” the DOOL alum said.

He continued, “A lot of people are challenged with balance, so I do a lot of balance exercises. Also, I do a lot of yoga with Crystal.”

Sabatino gave a shout-out to actor Michael J. Fox, who revealed his own diagnosis with Parkinson’s in 1998. He’s been transparent and open about his struggles with the disorder.

“He’s the guy, the lead, in terms of research and raising funds,” Michael Sabatino said about the Family Ties actor.

Will Either Return To DOOL?

Crystal Chappell and Michael Sabatino both left Days of Our Lives in 1993 when Carly and Lawrence left town together. However, they later returned to the soap. Carly stabbed Lawrence to death in 2009, though Michael Sabatino has appeared several times since as a ghost. Crystal Chappell last appeared in 2011.

While some fans might still hold out hope for a Bo (Peter Reckell) and Carly reunion, it seems the soap has no plans to revisit the romance. Peter Reckell returns to DOOL later this year for a special tribute to the soap’s 60th anniversary.

But fans can still catch Crystal Chappell on another soap. She co-produces and stars in the web series Venice. Season 7 just premiered on Vimeo.com.

It sounds as though life is good for the DOOL alums despite the scary diagnosis. Check back with TV Shows Ace for more on your favorite TV stars.
