‘Beyond The Gates’ Soap Fans Divided, Will They Watch?
Beyond the Gates is coming to CBS later this month as part of its daytime programming. The series revolves around a gated community, the fictional Fairmont Estates, and the affluent Dupree family. Before its premiere, soap opera fans are debating if they will tune in. Some fans are even sharing just why they’re interested in watching.
Beyond The Gates Already Has A Few Soap Opera Vets Attached
The soap is already notable for a variety of reasons. It is the first soap to debut on a major American broadcast network since Passions in the 1990s. The series is also one of the first soaps to focus on an African-American family since Generations.
Beyond the Gates already has a notable cast. This includes As the World Turns‘ Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis of Madam Secretary and Amen fame. Other soap opera vets, including Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain, were also announced as part of the upcoming series.
However, with many current soaps having decades of stories behind them, some fans wonder if Beyond the Gates has a lot to live up to. Taking to a Reddit page for The Young and the Restless fans, one fan asked, “Who will watch Beyond the Gates and why?”
As the fan continued, “Curious on everyone’s thoughts the new show. From the commercials, it has zero appeal to me so I just wanted to know other people’s opinions.”
Other fans shared their plans. Some were interested in seeing the new soap. For many, the actors, like Tunie and Davis, already gave the soap some appeal.
Some Fans Reminisced About The Classic Soaps That Have Come & Gone
A few fans were interested in watching because they simply liked soaps. In fact, the series being a new soap was also part of Beyond the Gates‘ appeal.
After all, many modern soap opera fans got into a series decades after it premiered. It’s a rare opportunity to see a daytime drama from the very start. Some even took this as a good sign for the genre, as they highlighted cancelled soaps they missed from years prior.

However, while many seem interested in watching, many fans felt it was too early to decide whether or not they’d like the soap. Some comments included:
- “I plan to watch it. I’m interested in what will happen and I’m a fan of Clifton Davis and Tamara Tunie.”
- “I will because I love soaps and miss the days of Y&R then B&B then ATWT then Guiding Light. I’m also a fan of some of the stars of Beyond the Gates from previous roles on other shows and soaps.”
- “I can’t wait, the more soaps the better, I miss my GL and ATWT, as someone else said, Tamara Tunie alone is worth watching and there are several other veteran soap actors as well. Ready for the Drama!!!!!”
- “Tbh, I wasn’t interested until I saw Tamara Tunie is in it. I want to support scripted shows, I’ll give it a chance”
- “I’ve never had the opportunity to start from the beginning of a soap before. I figure I’ll give it a couple weeks and see what I think. I wish it success regardless.”
- “I’ll watch it. Would be nice to get on the ground floor of a new series.”
