Season 8’s Shantel and Carlton hadn’t quite stuck to Dr. Now’s plan. Can he help them get back on the right course?

A huge step back! Dr. Now is dismayed to learn siblings Carlton and Shantel have regained over 100lbs of weight and potentially reversed their surgeries. See what happens tonight at 8/7c on #My600lbLife: Where Are They Now?” the official TLC Instagram account captioned a new post.

“Shantel finally called me back a week ago,” Dr. Now shares in the clip. “She let me know all that happened to them over the past year and a half. It looked like she got pregnant and she had a little baby who is around a year old now. And during that time she and Carlton had a bit of a falling out. And it sounds like they both eventually went back to some old habits over the last year. Shantel told me they both gained weight, but I was shocked to see how much.”

Cameras reveal Carlton and Shantel during their respective weigh-ins. Both siblings’ eyes widen in shock when they realize they’ve gained a substantial amount of weight since their last visit. Carlton is up almost 200 lbs while Shantel weighs an additional 135 lbs.

Dr. Now adds that the siblings are still at least one hundred pounds down from their first weigh-in. However, he expresses agitation that Shantel and Carlton didn’t follow his advice following the recovery process. The surgeon describes a new plan of care, which could involve starting from square one.

My 600-Lb Life Viewers Express Disappointment Over The Situation

No one wants to see patients on My 600-Lb Life suffer. However, many viewers admitted feeling frustrated with the lack of effort and initiative.

Onscreen, many patients have gone on to be wildly successful. But Dr. Now’s process takes a lot of time, commitment, and monumental lifestyle changes. Sadly, some viewers pointed out that many patients have setbacks like these if they don’t treat underlying issues such as food addiction.

Instagram users wrote:

  • Very possible….the food addiction is still very present”
  • This season has been horrible NO ONE does the work”
  • “He had to have been overeating since he got it and stretched his stomach back out”
  • How can this even be feasibly possible?”
