The Wendy Williams Show star, Wendy Williams’ legal guardian, has come forward with shocking claims about Wendy’s mental state. Furthermore, she reveals that a reevaluation for her form of dementia will take too long to process.

Wendy Williams’ Guardian Believes She Doesn’t Understand

Recently, Sabrina Morrissey, Wendy Williams’ guardian, made claims that Wendy isn’t in her right mind but doesn’t understand what is happening. Wendy has been under Sabrina’s court-ordered guardianship since 2022 but is living in a memory care facility now. Sabrina’s claims come in conjunction with her lawsuit against Lifetime for the 2024 documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?

Within the filings, Sabrina has asked for a motion to stay that would allow for a temporary pause for the lawsuit. Since Wendy has given interviews recently declaring she doesn’t have frontotemporal dementia and is being held in a “luxury prison,” this has complicated matters. On multiple occasions, she has claimed she is not in cognitive decline.

Wendy Williams’ Guardian Claims She Doesn’t Know She Has Dementia

Conversely, Wendy Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, asserts that Wendy doesn’t understand she is suffering from dementia. In the guardian’s filing, she stated: “The Guardian—who acts solely for the benefit of W.W.H. [Wendy Williams Hunter] and her estate—takes these statements seriously, but also recognizes that anosognosia (an inability to perceive one’s own cognitive impairment) is a common symptom of FTD.” Furthermore, she explains with the “misrepresentations” in the press after Wendy’s statements, she “Now seeks a short stay of discovery so that a highly qualified expert can perform a renewed medical evaluation” of Wendy. Likewise, that would include “supplement the extensive medical evaluations and diagnoses that W.W.H. has already received and to provide professional medical guidance on whether and how W.W.H. can participate in this case (including in discovery).”

Reevaluation Will Take Too Long

Furthermore, Sabrina Morrissey says that the medical evaluations aren’t as quick as people are saying. The process takes much longer, and a pause is necessary for the lawsuit. The guardian says, even “in the unlikely event” that the medical examinations would be different from her earlier diagnoses, Wendy Williams “is presently capable of directing her own legal affairs, the Guardian would have no reason to continue this action on her behalf.” If the evaluation stands, Sabrina will proceed with the lawsuit to “fulfill her fiduciary obligation to pursue a substantial financial recovery for W.W.H. that will help pay for her long-term care.”

Conversely, to earlier reports believing testing can be done in days, Sabrina claims the reevaluation will take much longer. She continues, “The requested stay will be limited in duration—the Guardian understands that it will likely take a few months, at most, to complete the medical evaluation—and will not unduly prejudice any party.” Instead, she says it will provide “the Court and the parties with a renewed, medically informed basis for determining whether this litigation should proceed and under whose direction, and will provide the public with a greater understanding of the nature of the claims and defenses at issue in this litigation.” Later, she details that the medical evaluation could take between two and three months.

Sabrina Morrissey Says She Wants What Is Best For Wendy Williams

Lifetime has made allegations that Sabrina Morrissey is angry over her portrayal in the documentary and is now retaliating. Wendy Williams’ guardian says that is not the case. Instead, Sabrina adds in the filing that she only wants what is best for Wendy. She is “W.W.H.’s fiduciary, has no personal stake in the outcome of this litigation, and is solely focused on protecting the financial and personal well-being” of Wendy. Seemingly, Sabrina understands with Wendy’s recent claims, the evaluation will be necessary to set the public’s mind at ease.

She knows the news of the “mistreatment” of Wendy has caught fire and spread quickly. She adds, “This has created somewhat of a media storm and public ‘debate’ about whether W.W.H. is incapacitated and whether she requires the care of a residential long-term care facility, a controversy whose flames are fanned almost daily in the tabloid media.”

Knowing this, Sabrina believes a medical evaluation can settle this matter. Wendy has been residing in a New York City upscale apartment with a senior facility memory care unit. She has been there for the past six months. It has locked floors to keep Wendy Williams secure. But in the meantime, Sabrina would like a pause to further work toward the reassessment of Wendy’s health.
