Steve Harvey Shares How One Call Changed His Life Forever

Steve Harvey recently shared an amazing story with the Family Feud audience about how he met his wife, Marjorie Harvey. The 68-year-old comedian and TV host often tells personal stories during breaks on the show, and this one really captured the attention of his fans. Steve explained that a single phone call in 2005 completely changed his life.

Steve Harvey’s Gambling Addiction

At the time, Steve had just gone through a divorce and was at a casino, gambling to distract himself. He was locked in a game when his bodyguard told him he had a phone call. Steve, not wanting to talk to anyone while he was gambling, was reluctant to pick up the phone. But his bodyguard insisted, saying, “I think you’ll want to hear this.”

When Steve finally answered, he was shocked to hear the voice of Majjorie, a woman he hadn’t spoken to since 1987. The conversation was lighthearted as Steve jokingly asked how her “punk-a** husband” was doing. Marjorie revealed that she had been divorced for four years. Steve was surprised but continued the conversation.

The next day, Steve flew to Memphis, Tennessee, to meet Marjorie for lunch. However, she wasn’t convinced that he was really single. At the time Marjorie thought Steve was still married to his ex-wife, Mary Lee Harvey. She told him “I don’t date married men”. Steve quickly explained that he had just finalized his divorce the day before, but it took about a month to convince her that he was truly single.

Marjorie Harvey Gave Steve One More Chance

Once Marjorie was sure he wasn’t still married, they agreed to meet again. This time, Steve wasn’t going to let her get away. He told Marjorie, “I let you get away on time. You ain’t goin’ nowhere this time”. Their relationship took off from there, and they eventually got married in 2007.

Steve credits Marjorie with changing his life in ways he never expected. When they met, he had only $1,700 in cash, but Marjorie didn’t care about his financial situation. Steve believes that Marjorie played a huge role in shaping him into the person he is today. He proudly says, “The dude I am today is cuz of her in 2005.”

Despite rumors of a breakup, Steve and Marjorie are still going strong. On February 16, 2025, Steve posted a photo of the couple enjoying a yacht cruise together, laughing and having a great time. His caption simply included a red heart emoji, showing just how strong their bond is.
