Fans Concerned, Say Joanna Gaines Put Small Son In Danger
Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines have built a monumental brand name for themselves. But in spite of their large fanbase, they’re not immune from critics. And in a recent social media post, several fans balked at the couple’s parenting decision.
Joanna Gaines Gives Her Son A Cooking Lesson
Chip and Joanna Gaines have five children together. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, she admitted the four oldest are all driving and exploring the world.
“My favorite thing is seeing them hanging out in a restaurant together as friends,” Joanna shared. “Because when they were younger I was always monitoring their fights, and now they’re dear friends, which is so cool.”
The youngest child, Crew, still has several years to go before he joins his older siblings. For now, he’s enjoying learning from his parents. But some of the Gaines’ fans think Chip and Joanna put him in a dangerous situation.
“My sous chef ❤️” Joanna captioned an Instagram post. In the photo, she’s working with food in a large soup pot. Her son Crew stands on the counter, watching his mother intently. However, fans couldn’t help but point out the situation was incredibly dangerous.
“In sock, (slippery) on countertop, by hot cooktop with boiling water. This is so unsafe,” one of Joanna’s Instagram criticized the mother of five.

- “He needs to sit down!”
- “Why standing on the counter????”
- “This totally freaks me out that one. He’s standing on the counter with just socks on too that he’s right next to the stove. I mean what if he slipped this is terrible Joanna.”
Many Instagram Users Praised It As A Teachable Moment
While Joanna Gaines’ Instagram post certainly received several negative comments, others defended her. Some pointed out she wouldn’t have posted the photo if anything dangerous actually happened. On top of that, many believed it was an excellent teaching moment to help her son improve his culinary skills.
