Chip Gaines Once Faced Major Legal Action From Network

Chip Gaines and his wife Joanna are world-renowned and widely beloved for their home improvement content. From Fixer Upper to the Magnolia Network, there seems to be something for everyone with their brand.
However, the couple faced shock and fear back in 2018 when they realized they might face serious legal consequences over leaked information.
Chip Gaines Boldly Broke An NDA Agreement On National Television
The Things reports that Chip and Joanna Gaines appeared on The Tonight Show to talk about upcoming projects in 2018. At the time, the celebrity couple discussed time away from their hit show Fixer Upper to focus on their family. They also gave birth to their fifth child, Crew.
After so much time away, Jimmy Fallon asked if television would ever be in the Gaines’ future again. At the time, Chip and Joanna knew they were about to bring the Magnolia Network to life. They weren’t supposed to publicly reveal any information, but Chip’s excitement got the better of him.

“We signed a nondisclosure agreement… And it said ‘You can tell your mother but that’s it,'” Chip admitted to the cameras. He then addressed his “mother” and confirmed they were indeed returning to television with the launch of the Magnolia Network. Naturally, the audience went wild for the major announcement.
While Chip and Joanna were also pleased to celebrate the news with fans, joy quickly turned to fear when they realized Chip violated their NDA. Many networks have been known to sue for violated NDAs and they weren’t sure what would happen next.
The Fear Of A Legal Battle Quickly Blew Over
In a subsequent 2023 interview with Jimmy Fallon, the Gaines addressed the massive bombshell from their previous appearance.
“We were so scared…” Chip confessed. In turn, the host admitted he knew the couple wasn’t allowed to share news about the Magnolia Network. Joanna agreed, sharing that Chip was warned not to spill any information. Chip quipped that he half expected the network execs to lead him off in handcuffs.
Thankfully for the Gaineses, it doesn’t appear that anyone took any serious legal action against them. The Magnolia Network went on to launch as expected, delighting Chip and Joanna’s fans around the world.

Now that the fear of legal action is well in the past, the Gaineses are focused on continuing their successful brand and raising their five children.
“For me, the reward isn’t when I make it to my destination. It’s how I rode out the waves,” Chip wrote in the Magnolia Journal recently. “How many times I was willing to take big swings even if it meant losing my footing. How often I dared to pivot not for the sake of danger but deep delight.”
