‘Good Morning America’ Facing Massive Layoffs, Show In Danger?

With the ratings on morning talk shows struggling lately, the networks are trying to find ways to turn things around. One of these talk shows is Good Morning America. There are recent reports indicating that Disney, who owns ABC News, is looking at ways to make the morning talk show profitable again.
This is rumored to include restructuring and what could be a lof of layoffs. Here is what you need to know about GMA and its possible future.
Good Morning America Looking At Restructuring
ABC is reportedly considering consolidating its Good Morning America and GMA3 teams. This could lead to layoffs and possibly some big names leaving the franchise. This was reported on Monday when Debra O’Connell was in California showing executives her long-term plans for the network (via Daily Mail).

The anchors for Good Morning America are presently Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, and Ginger Zee. The GMA3 anchors are Eve Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan. It is an afternoon spinoff of Good Morning America.
If Disney and ABC News choose to consolidate them, there is not room for everyone. There is a good chance that the most prominent names stay on the show – Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan. However, their pay rates might make one of them expendable. However, there are rumors that one of the big three could be on the way out.
George Stephanopoulos Reportedly Unhappy On Good Morning America
The rumors indicate that George Stephanopoulos is “miserable” on Good Morning America right now. It seems this started when ABC had to pay Donald Trump a $16 million settlement after George said on air that Trump was “found liable for rape.”

Stephanopoulos should have said he was “found liable for sexual abuse.” Because he misspoke, he cost his network millions. Since the lawsuit, Stephanopoulos has been left “apoplectic” and “humiliated,” sources claim. This has led some to feel there is a place to move up now.
However, if ABC News consolidated the shows, it would just limit the number of anchors, with likely a GMA3 anchor joining Roberts and Strahan. However, it is not only anchors who could see their jobs ending.
CNN laid off about 200 people when they shifted to more of a digital-based model instead of their television shows. They also lost Darcy and Jim Acosta, who moved on to their own independent ventures. If Stephanopoulos leaves, he will have no problem finding something else. Other employees might find it harder.
What are your thoughts on the possible changes coming to Good Morning America? Would you be disappointed to see the merging of the shows? Would you miss George Stephanopoulos if he leaves the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
