‘General Hospital’ Reasons Soap Is On Verge Of Cancellation

Reasons General Hospital Is On Verge Of Cancellation
General Hospital has had viewers invested since 1963. It has had so many ups and downs with captivating storylines, even landing the iconic Elizabeth Taylor as Helena Cassadine. Although it has since been recast, it was a moment that lives in infamy. Luke and Laura had one of the most watched and celebrated weddings while fans have shipped more couples than they can count. Brenda and Sonny were adored and beloved but he had to let her go because of his dangerous lifestyle as a mobster.
There have been paternity issues, deaths and resurgences, and fan favorites who have left or have been fired. In 2021, Ingo Rademacher and Steve Burton did not comply with the vaccine mandate so they were axed. Ingo made it a legal situation whereas Steve went on to Days of Our Lives. He was welcomed back and it was a huge storyline in early 2024 since his character, Jason Morgan had been killed off. Unfortunately, in August 2024, it was announced that his former love interest, Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) had been fired. Following that, Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) announced his departure and went up in flames.

This led fans to think General Hospital was killing off another beloved character but he was spared and was just sent away to get better treatment. With all of this, the show may be on the verge of cancellation. According to yahoo!, the ratings have dropped and fans have threatened to boycott if the show keeps going downhill. Now, whether or not they mean it is unknown as so many faithful will stick around regardless. However, the fact that two beloved and longtime stars are gone and they are replacing people left and right does not bode well.
Fans Speak Out
General Hospital fans do not hold back and they were very open about how they have felt over the last several months. From wanting Frank Valentini fired over Kelly Monaco to recasting, they are letting the soap know where they stand:
- Do any of you people see these comments?!? NO ONE can stand Drew or Willow. For god sakes, get rid of them. And someone get Drew Garrett back as Michael.
- Bring back Kelly Monaco!!!!!
- I haven’t watched a single episode since I heard there were letting Kelly Monaco go.. and I’ve been watching for over 20 years!!!
- Really 😒 what’s with the new Jack? 👎🏽
It appears that the fans have spoken and they are not happy. Some admitted they had not watched for a while and just popped in and out. It is truly sad what this soap has become but maybe, the writers and producers will see what viewers are saying and do some damage control.

They need to slow down on all the chopping of characters. They should allow Cryus in hospital and set him up. like with trying to kill Sunny. They should have Willow walk in on Nina and Drew. Jason and Sasha should get married for baby.

The writers are doing story lines that have been 20 years ago. I mean Jason claimed Michael as his son in the 90’s and then the writers of the 2000’s give him two sons, that he doesn’t have really to do with. Don’t get me started on the Liason baby between Liz and Jason. Liason is huge fanbase, but the writers and the EP have never like the Liason fanbase. The writing for Jason has not changed in 25 years, he stills acts the same way he did in the late 90’s and 2000’s. The EP said in interview that the three was the faces of GH, the problem with that is , the three show runners haven’t change their acting in 20 or 30 years. The cast to bloated and the story lines are boring. Bring on Liason and lets see what they could do, they got nothing to worry about.
