‘Deadliest Catch’ Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski Shares Cancer Update

For years, Captain “Wild” Bill Wichrowski was a fan favorite on Deadliest Catch. Naturally, fans grew concerned as the captain and television personality dealt with a cancer diagnosis. Recently, however, Wichrowski shared an update with fans concerning his health.

Captain Wild Bill Previously Went Public With His Diagnosis To Encourage Others To Get Treated

On the show, “Wild” Bill Wichrowski served as the captain of various vessels. This included the F/V Cape Caution, F/V Kodiak, F/V Summer Bay, and F/V Tromstind. Wild Bill served as a long-remaining fixture on the show for years, first appearing in the sixth season.

Towards the end of the 19th season, Wichrowski was diagnosed with prostate cancer. At the time, he went public with fans over his diagnosis in the hopes of convincing those in similar situations to receive treatments.

Wichrowski has since been sharing updates about his health journey with fans. Taking to Facebook, he also shared this recent post, “Lots of folks asking about cancer treatment progress. Recap, Radioactive seeds and hormone treatment.”

“Happy to say numbers Are great. Not complaining purely for information. The hormone thing is necessary but for me not w/o issues. Testosterone drops to near zero by design.”

“You can google results of that. I seem to be cancer free now. I have always felt 10-15 years younger than my age. The job I have and being around crew 1/2 my age. Feels like the clock has caught up. Maybe small price to pay.”

The Deadliest Catch Instagram Page Also Highlighted Captain Wild Bill’s Spirit

Wichrowski finished the post, noting, “Thanks for concern and best wishes. If you have symptoms, get checked.”

Notably, the series has also touched on Wild Bill’s health journey. In a post on Instagram, the series shared a clip of the captain seeing his doctor. The caption highlighted Wild Bill’s spirit, noting, “Cancer couldn’t conquer Bill’s spirit, or stop him from fearlessly taking on the Bering Sea.”

On the Facebook post, many fans shared their reactions to Wichrowski’s update. Many were happy to hear his good news. A few shared their own personal experience dealing with prostate cancer. Some comments included:

  • “So happy to hear things are going well for you. Wonderful you shared your experience. If it inspires even one person to be pro-active about health care, good on you!”
  • “I’m so happy and relieved to hear the treatments have worked! Be patient with yourself, you’ve been through a lot. Give yourself some time to heal and recover and soon you’ll be back to yourself!”
  • “Glad to hear things are going well. Luckily prostate cancer is an easier one for us to treat and more successful one to best of course if caught early.”
