‘Breaking Amish’ Did Chapel Schmucker Really Have Cancer?
Did Breaking Amish star, Chapel Schmucker really have cancer or did she fabricate it for sympathy and a storyline? It was always questionable what was going on behind closed doors and fans had a plethora of theories. So, what was the real story? Keep reading for more details.
Did Chapel Schmucker Really Have Cancer?
Chapel Schmucker won Andrew Schmucker’s heart on Breaking Amish and they quickly fell in love. Unfortunately, she got some devastating news when she learned that she had lung cancer. She previously had bone cancer two years prior which she had beat so she had hoped she was in the clear. Sadly, that was not the case and soon, she was setting up pages for financial assistance. As a parent, Chapel could not afford all that went along with having cancer and raising a family. Luckily, Andrew was ready and willing to be by her side and they tied the knot in 2014.
The couple is still together to this day which is an amazing feat. Chapel works a few restaurant jobs and seems to be in a good space. However, diehard fans will always wonder if Chapel was actually sick again or if she fabricated the story. The timing was off regarding filming and when she got the news which could have been a production issue. Then, show alum, Kate Stoltz spoke out in 2016 and shared the truth about Chapel in a series of tweets:
- I haven’t heard from her since I found out her cancer wasn’t back like she said it was. i don’t know what she is up to
- They had me fooled. I’m upset that I was tricked into thinking that her cancer was back and she was doing chemo
- For example, Chapel was NOT doing chemo when the show was filmed. She was in remission and had us all fooled into thinking she was very sick
- I’m not downplaying the horrible reality of cancer, treatment or after effects. she used it to cover up a heroin addiction.
Fans Are Very ‘Invested’
Despite what Kate Stoltz said regarding Chapel Schmucker, fans were very invested. They started a Reddit thread to discuss if she was sick or if she was perfectly fine. The OP wrote this:
- I was so invested in her story and my heart broke for her. Then I saw a few posts where people were saying that she wasn’t really sick. Does anyone have any proof or information on this?
Did any Breaking Amish fans have answers regarding Chapel or were they at a loss? There were a lot of mixed responses which is how it has been for the last decade:
- I had read an article saying she had cancer in the years prior to the show but that there was no proof that she had it during the show & later admitted to not having it
- Wasn’t she just a junkie?
- I’ve seen articles where she was actually sick once but the second time she wasn’t.

I thought it odd how she had a slight smirk on her face, a little smile when talking about her cancer returning.
