Fans just had to say goodbye to a beloved Fox procedural series when 9-1-1: Lone Star aired its series finale. The final episode aired on February 3 and the team had to battle an asteroid headed for Earth and then a possible nuclear reactor meltdown that threatened to kill everyone in the area. With that said, star Rob Lowe said he might not be finished with the franchise.

Here is what happened at the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star and what Lowe said about his possible return.

How Did 9-1-1: one Star End?

Rob Lowe plays Owen Strand on 9-1-1: Lone Star. He was a firefighter in New York City who developed cancer after fighting the fires on 9/11. He moved to Austin, took on the job there, and developed into a beloved character in the series.

However, in the 9-1-1: Lone Star finale, it looked like Owen was finally going to die in the line of duty. An asteroid was headed for the planet, and it looked like it would hit Austin. Owen, who was considering taking a job back in New York City, put that on hold to save Austin one more time.

If the asteroid hit the planet, it could cause a nuclear meltdown, and a professor had to hit a SCRAM button to stop the possibility. However, he fell and knocked himself out. The good news is that the team got there, but before they could get in, an explosion sent shrapnel at them, and Owen took one in the gut while Mateo was hit in the neck.

Owen got in, bleeding heavily, and finally hit the SCRAM button to stop the meltdown before seemingly falling in death as a hero.

With all that craziness, the wildest twist was yet to come. Owen survived. It turns out that he didn’t die. He went ahead and took the job in New York City, returning to where he came from before this show began. He is now the fire chief in NYC.

Rob Lowe Talks Possible Return As Owen Strand

Rob Lowe said that the ending was perfect for him, and he was honored to tell the first responder story on TV. He also said that the character means a lot to him. He hinted that Owen could return in the future.

“Listen, I never say never to anything, and it’s a character that means a lot to me,” Lowe said (via PEOPLE). “It is very clear that the audience is going to miss the show as much as we’re going to miss doing it.”

Of course, this sounds familiar. Tom Selleck said the same thing about his character from Blue Bloods after its cancelation. That isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. However, for Rob Lows, there is a possibility. While Fox canceled Lone Star, Rob could always pop up again on the original 9-1-1, which now airs on ABC.
