‘Swamp People’ Troy Landry Target Of Undercover Sting

Troy Landry has been part of Swamp People for years. While he has proven himself an accomplished alligator hunter, even he can sometimes get into trouble. The Swamp People star was once even the subject of an undercover sting.
Troy Landry Was On Swamp People From The Very Start
On Swamp People, viewers have seen alligator hunters take on gators in the Atchafalaya River Basin region of Louisiana. With the original series coming out in 2010, viewers have seen a variety of alligator hunters join and leave the series.
However, Troy Landry has been part of Swamp People since the first season. Over the years, he has earned the title of “King of the Swamp.”

At times, Troy has hunted with family, like his sons Jacob and Chase. In recent years, he has also notably worked with Cheyenne “Pickle” Wheat.
However, even Troy has not been without legal trouble, even in his line of work. As reported by People, Troy had once been the target of an undercover sting.
According to an incident report obtained by the publication, Troy was cited “failing to tag an alligator upon taking.” Reportedly, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries was given a tip back in September claiming someone was setting gator lines in an area without prior permission.
Using a “concealed location,” it was later found that Landry and his lines matched the alleged description. At the time, Landry claimed someone had given him the tags.
Troy Later Commented On The Story With A Local News Site
It later came to light that Troy was allowed to hunt in the area. However, the issue would be the tags Troy was using. Agents later “confirmed that none of the tag numbers matched any of the tags that were assigned for this area.”
“After proving to him that we were watching the entire time, Mr. Landry admitted that he took the alligator from this area but could not find the tags that were gifted to him for this hunt. Mr. Landry also admitted that prior to agents making contact with him, he cut a dead ‘stiff’ alligator loose from his line and let it float away.”
A dead alligator was also found with one of Troy’s lines hanging from his mouth. This led to Troy getting two citations. As the report claimed, it was “one for the improperly tagged alligator and one for cutting a dead alligator from the line.”
At the time, Troy’s boat and its engine were taken by authorities. In a conversation with WAFB-TV, Troy claimed he had “nothing to say” over the incident. He added, “I got a speeding ticket also last month but I have nothing to say about it.”
Notably, these charges carry a possible fine of $950. There is also a possibility of imprisonment for a maximum of 120 days.
