CMT Music Awards Canceled For 2025, Details
For years, the CMT Music Awards has highlighted country music videos and their fans. However, it’s recently been announced that the award show will be taking a pause this year. In fact, the CMT Music Awards is just one of multiple shows to be similarly paused in a recent move.
The CMT Music Awards Have Been Around In Some Form Since The 1960s
The CMT Music Awards has its origins in the 1967 Music City News Awards show. This makes it one of Paramount Global’s oldest award shows. Over the years, it has aired on TNN, CMT, and CBS.
However, it has recently been announced that the award show will be taking a pause for 2025. The recent decision is also believed to have impacted other similar shows this year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news was confirmed in a staff memo from the office of Paramount;’s president, Bruce Gillmer. Addressed to “Team,” it read:
“We want to share some news. We are pausing a few events for 2025, as we look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward. These include the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards.”
“Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture. We have the best team in the business, and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.”
The Golden Globes & The Grammys Were Already Hosted Earlier This Year
Some upcoming events will not be affected by the recent decision. This includes VMAs and the United States’ own Kids’ Choice Awards.
In addition, local events concerning the Isle of MTV Malta and the VMAJs will not be affected. Likewise, the Golden Globes and the Grammys have also been spared, as they were hosted prior to the announcement.
At this time, it is unclear what this means for the future of the paused events. As noted, the CMT Music Awards being paused is all the more notable, as it is one of the longer-running events impacted. However, the awards show only obtained its more modern name in the 2000s.
As the publication noted, Paramount Global recently agreed to merge with David Ellison’s Skydance Media. It’s believed the decision is meant to help Paramount schedule their look for the future and “optimize” its tentpole strategy.

CMA Country awards would rather cancel to avoid acknowledging Bey
I’m sure Bey is not the reason.. Probably fighting over networks to show it on. Streaming so all cannot watch instead of a local station. Posty is not country either really.. they are both pop music not country

I think it is so sad the reason you are canceling the awards. Why not take the money to put on all these awards shows & instead spread it around to the poor people that lost everything in the hurricanes & fires. Why are most of the rich so selfish & it has to be all about them. May God touch your hearts to help your fellow man.
I want the Country Music Awards!!
I believe it’s a political decision. Many country music fans are republican. We are being punished by not having the CMT award show. Most of the other award shows are not worth watching. Just nasty and rude.
country music has turned to be so sickening that it makes me sick to listen to it. trying to bring rap and other modes of horror into country music is awful. the singers aren’t that great anymore as well. as one person said before is that most of country stars are selfish and arrogant and full of pride. country music just isn’t worth listening too anymore. basically I can’t stand listening to the crap that has evolved. all country singers should get back to the basics and remember where country music came from, then and only then may people go back to listening to country music.
