Insider Reveals Drew Barrymore Is ‘Poaching’ Kelly Clarkson Fans
Recently, an insider revealed that Drew Barrymore has been lining up strategic moves to “poach” her competitor, Kelly Clarkson’s fans. Both ladies started in the entertainment industry performing in other areas, but have gravitated to becoming talk show hosts. But the battle is on to keep rating up for both The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Drew Barrymore Show.
Friendship Compromised
While both Drew Barrymore, 43, and Kelly Clarkson, 42 have been friends in the past, the pressure to keep their shows afloat has compromised the bond. One insider revealed that the once budding friendship has taken a turn. The source said, “Drew and Kelly are locked in a pretty heated battle for the daytime talk show crown that Ellen DeGeneres owned for years.”

Notably, the insider added, “Even though Kelly has a mild edge in the ratings, Drew is still more famous, and her lifetime of industry friends and contacts has allowed her to create viral moments pretty regularly.” Additionally, Drew Barrymore has already achieved a 25 percent increase in viewership of The Drew Barrymore Show during 2024.
The ratings have made things a bit tense with both hosts, but they are trying to avoid taking “cheap shots” at one another. The source says that at one point when Drew Barrymore was just starting, she had Kelly Clarkson’s support. They even mentioned they “spoke often.” Furthermore, the insider adds, “Drew let it be known how much she admired Kelly, and they got very chummy, but that’s all stopped now. They both want to win this battle and be the top dog, and that unfortunately makes things very awkward.” Sadly, Kelly and Drew don’t talk at all anymore.

However, Drew Barrymore has joined the reboot for Hollywood Squares. Not only does she see it as a great gig, but it is an opportunity for her to reach more viewers. Likewise, she hopes the new show will draw people over to check out The Drew Barrymore Show. Additionally, the source says, “She’s trying to find a way to appeal to Middle America, which is where Kelly really shines.” But the insider makes it clear that this isn’t just fun and games anymore. They say, “She would never frame it this way, but she’s trying to poach Kelly’s fans, which is pretty cutthroat.” Also alluding to that being the reason they have “backed off the friendship.” Furthermore, Drew “wants to win this battle at all costs!”
Notably, Drew Barrymore is racing to gain more viewers even if it means stealing some from Kelly Clarkson. However, Kelly isn’t just rolling over without a fight. The TV insider notes that Kelly is “just as ambitious.” She understands it takes dedication and is pouring herself into her work. They share, “Make no mistake, they’re both chasing the same daytime talk show crown – and the generational wealth that comes with it.” Since her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, Kelly has put in overtime to keep up the pace. Even so, they say she is “running herself ragged in New York doing her show.”
