Today, Bindi and her family run the famous Australia Zoo where they reach others about the importance of conservation and wildlife advocacy. But there are still moments when she sorely misses her father Steve.
In a recent interview, she opened up about the grieving process as a young child and how others around her made the situation even worse.
Bindi Irwin Powell Talks How Unhelpful People Could Be While She Grieved
Fans of the Irwin family know that the Crocodile Hunter always instilled passion and respect for animals in his children. As adults, Bindi Irwin Powell and her brother Robert love spreading his message.
To the public, they’re a very upbeat and joyful bunch. But they each struggled with their own emotional turmoil after navigating Steve Irwin’s Loss.

On the A Life of Greatness podcast, Bindi revealed many meant well when they tried to comfort her over the loss of her father. But in the end, they ultimately made her feel worse. They kept telling her, “time heals all wounds.”
As a child, Bindi found the phrase confusing and maddening.
“And I remember thinking, as an 8-year-old, ‘What in the heck does that mean? Why do people keep telling me like, one day I’ll forget about this?’” the conservationist told The Daily Mail.

It’s like a scar on your heart.”

Bindi Irwin and her husband Chandler Powell are the parents of a daughter, Grace Warrior. Although Grace is still very little, her family is showing her how to care for animals at an age-appropriate level.
On social media, Bindi described how Grace helped them release a sea turtle back into the wild. Even though it was an emotional day for the little girl, they believe it was also a powerful teaching moment.
