John Rich Slams Beyoncé Over Recent Grammy Wins

The recent Grammy Awards saw pop icon Beyoncé nab a few wins, from Album of the Year to Best Country Album. However, some have recently come out saying they disagree with the win. In fact, one country music star recently spoke out on how he thinks the award winners are determined.
Beyoncé Recently Won A Few Awards Thanks To Her Album, Cowboy Carter
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards took place on February 2, 2025. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the event looked at performers from September 2023 to August 2024.
Pop star Beyoncé had the most nominations that night, with 11 in total. She won three awards, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter.

Other candidates for the Album of the Year award included Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. Other performers nominated for the Best Country Award also included Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson.
At this time, Beyoncé has had at least 99 Grammy nominations over the years. This makes her one o the most nominated performers in Grammy history.
However, Beyoncé’s has already received at least one critic. As noted by The Daily Wire, country music legend John Rich recently spoke about just how he thought Beyoncé made her Grammy wins.
Throughout the 1990s, Rich was a member of the country music band, Lonestar. He then pursued a solor career in 1998. He later joined up with Big Kenny to form the group, Big & Rich.
Rich is also known for his various reality television appearances, which are usually tied to his country music background. He served as a host on Gone Country, a judge on Nashville Star, and was even a candidate on The Celebrity Apprentice back in 2011.
Some Fans Shared Similar Feelings With John Rich In The Comments
Recently, on X, Rich talked about Beyoncé’s recent Grammy wins and just how he thought the process played out. As he shared, “Folks are asking me ‘how do music award shows work?'”
“Labels/publishers all have blocks of votes. They make deals with each other ‘you vote for mine, we’ll vote for yours’ type thing. It has ZERO to do with who made the best music, thus, Beyonce with ‘Country album of the year.’ Nice, right?”

“The same thing is true with the CMA’s, ACM’s, Billboard, etc…all work exactly the same. Last night, the Grammy’s outed themselves in a big way.”
Taking to the comments, one fan wrote, “I did not realize Beyoncé sang country music.” This even got a simple reply from Rich’s account: “She doesn’t.”
Other comments also seemed to share Rich’s sentiments. Many felt that such practices were taking places, feeling they were unfair to other performers. A few even questioned the modern state of country music. Some comments included:
- “Shameful. I feel bad for the artists who truly have busted their behinds to write, rehearse, learn multiple instruments, get told no hundreds of times, play in smoky bars and State Fairs for years to get a break just to be one-upped by someone who needed to stay in her lane. Glitz and glitter on a cowboy hat and boots don’t make you a country artist.”
- “I still cannot figure out how Kendrick Lamar won both song of the year and record of the year for a song that insults Drake. I never heard that song playing on radio or on television.”
- “Country music is puppet-pop music these days. Every song is a cookie cutter song. They went completely mainstream and soft. The likes of Billy Joe Shaver, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and others…..those days are gone forever.”
- “This was the biggest slap in the face to true country music musicians, writers and listeners ever. Just because Beyoncé put on a cowboy hat doesn’t make her a country singer.”

I don’t think Beyonce should have won any awards for country music. The one song I heard was not that good 2 me. I think she is over rated and I just don’t care for her or her music
Her song wasn’t a typical country song and her voice doesn’t belong anywhere near country music. That’s a total disgrace she won in a country music category. Absolutely ridiculous!!
