Reflecting on the experience in a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Stefani admitted that landing the role in a Martin Scorsese film was beyond her wildest dreams. She was excited by the chemistry she had with DiCaprio. Confessing that she almost had a chance to kiss him, but sadly, that moment never happened. Despite the missed opportunity, Gwen cherished the experience as one of the most “incredible, scary” moments of her life.

Gwen Stefani’s journey to landing the role was equally surprising. She recalled auditioning for the film in an informal setting at the Bel-Air Hotel.  Where girls were simply walking in to try out. As soon as Stefani walked in and performed her scene, she was cast on the spot. She was humbled by how kind and welcoming director Martin Scorsese made her feel. Even though she had no prior acting experience and only three lines in the film. She jokingly added, “I didn’t have any skills, I just tried out,” but it worked out for her.

Before The Aviator, Gwen’s name was already well-known in the music world. Her band No Doubt has achieved significant success, and she has built a solid solo career. However, her brief acting attempt didn’t end with The Aviator. She also auditioned for a role in the action film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which was ultimately given to Angelina Jolie. In a 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Stefani shared that the role was “between me and Angelina Jolie.” And she was proud of having a shot at it, even though it didn’t work out. Gwen explained in 2016 that she never took the loss personally because she was always more focused on her music career. Which had given her amazing success and a net worth of $160 million.
