Wheel of Fortune offers up plenty of cash prizes. However, it is also a show that is known for giving out big vacation prizes. Most of the time, there are great trips to island paradises or European destinations. However, in a recent episode, a woman won a trip to a United States city that has many fans slamming its inappropriate nature.

Here is the trip and how it was more offensive than the game show might have thought.

Wheel Of Fortune Offers Controversial Trip

On Tuesday’s episode of Wheel of Fortune, Jacque Franklin, a grandmother of eight, solved a puzzle in the Express Round to win a prize trip. However, the trip was one that shocked many fans and seemed a little inappropriate for many reasons.

Jacque Franklin, an African American grandmother, got to listen to the announcement describing the prize trip she just won. The promo explained that there was golfing, zip-lining, and roller-coaster riding. None of these activities are something most grandmothers are going on vacation to do.

However, there was also a statement that seemed a little out of place. The announcer said Jacque could “go back in time” to Williamsburg, Virginia. That is because the location is historically significant. There are a lot of historical events that took place there, including The  Gunpowder Incident and the Declaration of Independence Proclamation.

However, it was also the first place that the English ships brought the slaves to America. The White Lion and the Treasurer brought enslaved Africans to Virginia in 1619. It seems this is one place that an African American woman wouldn’t want to “go back in time” to.

Fans Blast Williamsburg, Virginia Prize Trip

When Jacque Franklin won the Wheel of Fortune trip, many fans at home were shocked at the inappropriate prize. They were also shocked at how the trip was described.

Here is a sample of what fans had to say (via Reddit):

  • “Why have their trips been so lame this season? I don’t recall such awful destinations on previous seasons.”
  • “She’s an African American woman sent to a vacation spot that is a recreation of life during slave days. I could not believe it.”
  • “It literally started with ‘go back in time to colonial Williamsburg,’ and my face went. I don’t think she wants to do that….”

There were some fans who defended the trip. Some said they went there on vacation, and it was a great historical location.
