The Voice OG coach, Adam Levine has returned after a nearly six-year hiatus but what is it like being back without his bestie, Blake Shelton? The two formed an incredibly fun, sweet, and comical bromance. Yet, it was torn apart when Adam left the hit NBC reality series in 2019. Now, Blake is gone and Adam is reclaiming his chair but how does that feel? Keep reading for more details.

Adam Levine Reflects On Returning Without Blake Shelton

When The Voice first began in 2011, there were four OG coaches. They consisted of CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine. Though coaches would come and go, Adam and Blake were the staples. They had formed a bromance that viewers adored as they bounced off of one another in a fun, comical, harsh but loving way. They would tease each other about being People’s Sexiest Man Alive and stealing titles but it was all out love. Sadly, Adam exited in 2019 after sixteen seasons, which was hard because who could have the same banter with Blake?

Other coaches came in and Blake had a lot of fun with them but it was never the same. He ultimately left after Season 23 with Reba McEntire coming to fill his shoes. She was a hit and it did not hurt that Snoop Dogg was added as a coach. This brought a whole new dynamic. Around the same time the Season 26 coaches were confirmed, the Season 27 coaches were announced. It was then revealed that Adam would be making his grand return. Furthermore, he would be joined by John Legend, Michael Buble, and newcomer, Kelsea Ballerini.

Now that The Voice is set to premiere on February 3rd, how does Adam Levine feel about doing this for the first time without Blake Shelton? According to People, Adam joked it wasn’t and that he doesn’t care for Blake but then shifted back to reality:

“I’m just kidding. Of course, I love Blake. And I had to open with a Blake joke because he’s not on the show anymore, yet they still continue.”

Though it is great to be back, what he and Blake had was very special:

“There’s no replacing [Shelton]. The thing that happened with Blake and I, it was so organic, and it was based on our friendship. Because nobody really realizes that we were thrown into this thing that wasn’t a thing yet. Our friendship was based on this not knowing what the hell was happening, and being silly, and stupid with each other.”

A New Chapter Of The Voice

Adam Levine may be returning without Blake Shelton but it will still be an exciting experience. He noted that he spent a decent amount of time doing his own thing away from The Voice. There was his family, his band, touring, and more. Therefore, Adam was not just the coach from that reality show and the breather was good all around. Furthermore, he loves being back and reconnecting with all of the people he had worked with prior and missed deeply. As for how it is different in Season 27, Adam is no longer looking at the show as a competition:

“I don’t really see it as a competition anymore, and I know they’re not going to like that, but that’s not what it is. It’s an opportunity for us to share our experiences with the people on the show. And it always has been that.”

Whether or not Blake Shelton will surprise his former bestie is yet to be seen. It will also be fascinating to watch as viewers adapt to Adam without Blake. However, they did it when Adam left Blake behind so this should be a fun and exciting season.
