‘Harpoon Hunters’ Star Discusses His Addiction Issues

Harpoon Hunters is the latest extreme fishing show on the Discovery Channel. Instead of shows like Deadliest Catch, which shows crab fishermen risking their lives in harsh Alaskan waters, this takes the action to the East Coast. These fishermen are men like Captain Tyler Macallister, who leads his boat out to harpoon blazingly fast fish for big profits.
Here is what Tyler said about his job and how it ties into his addiction issues.
Harpoon Hunters Star Talks Harpoon Fishing
Captain Tyler Macallister is one of the main captains starring on Harpoon Hunters on Discovery Channel. He captains the Cynthia Ctwo on the new reality TV show, which follows the harpoon fishermen on the Northeastern shores of the United States.

In interviews with the man, Tyler says he lives for fishing – on and off the show. According to the first promo for the Discovery Channel series, he said he is like “a crack addict when it comes to harpoon fishing.”
Tyler has been fishing since he was 12. When he was 19, he harpooned his first Giant Bluefin (via Off the Charts Sportfishing). This led to him only fishing with a giant harpoon, and now he does it professionally with his fishing vessels. On top of fishing, Tyler is also a hunter, but that seems to be what he does to relax.
Tyler also offers charters for people wanting to go on fishing excursions. He charges anywhere from $110 for three people and two hours to $1,475 for a six-hour striped bass fishing trip (via Fishing Booker).
What Is Harpoon Hunters About On Discovery Channel?
Harpoon Hunters is very different from shows like Deadliest Catch. While the older show is about crab fishermen trying to make quota while fighting deadly water conditions, Harpoon Hunters is just about the thrill of the catch.
This show takes place in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where harpoon fishermen hunt the elusive Atlantic bluefin tuna. They then fire their harpoons at these giant and fast fish, which weigh upward of 500 lbs each. The crew only has four weeks to catch their limit, and each fish is worth as much as $10,000.
Harpoon Hunters follows four harpoon captains and their crews, led by Captain Dylan Caldwell, Captain Joe Dion, Captain Tyler Macallister, and Captain Nicholas “Niko” Chaprales.
Harpoon Hunters premiered on Friday, January 24, on the Discovery Channel. New episodes arrive on Friday nights at 9 p.m. EST. It is also available for streaming on Discovery+ and Max for subscribers.
