Hallmark has just released an expanded synopsis for The Perfect Setting. What is revealed? “Abby is an American who works in a luxury jewelry store doing repairs and keeps getting looked over for her true passion –jewelry design.”
“Feeling defeated, she takes a two -week trip to her ancestral home Antwerp, Belgium to visit her recently widowed grandfather and the quaint, family shop where she developed her craft. Upon arriving, she discovers that her grandfather has been struggling to keep the shop afloat and is fending off stiff competition from a more modern, local family business, Remy & Sons. Luckily, her visit coincides with the famed Antwerp Diamond Festival and a contest that would offer enough prize money to set things right.”
“Resolved to help her grandfather, Abby enters the contest and finds herself competing against Alexander Remy, whose family have won the past several years. When Alexander turns out to be surprisingly supportive of Abby’s work, she begins to wonder where her heart truly belongs.”
Is The Perfect Setting Hallmark’s Romeo & Juliet?
Hallmark fans who have checked out The Perfect Setting Preview Video can see that the feel-good network is labeling this as a sort of romcom Romeo & Juliet. The preview shows the two main characters, Abby and Alexander meeting. He wonders about her being there. She reveals that she has family in Belgium. Moreover, they are in the diamond business.
However, it is at a formal gathering where the two are dancing that it is revealed that the two families have a long-held rivalry. Does this mean that these two leads are an ill-fated couple? That does not seem likely. Nor does poison or a dagger. This is Hallmark, and if anything, they are investigated in bringing divided families together, with a happily ever after ending.
But, this is a romcom, so there is no doubt that they will play with this trope and have loads of fun.
