Netflix Has A Variety Of Options

New Price Increase Announcement

Recently, Netflix released a shareholders’ letter, including a spike in existing plans. The letter indicates as the platform continues “to invest in programming and deliver more value” to the subscribers, they will “occasionally ask” members to pay more. The reason stated was to reinvest and improve the streaming platform. Members can expect the lowest, ad-supported tier to see a $1 increase. It will go from $6.99/mo. to now $7.99. Likewise, subscribers with the ad-free tier had been paying $15.49, but will now be charged $17.99/mo. Furthermore, the highest tier, “Premium” without ads will go from $22.99 to $24.99. But members don’t have much time before the changes take place. The letter indicates the price jump will take effect on the next billing cycle.

Along with the price increase, subscribers now have the option to add “extra members” outside their household subscription. Prices for the Standard and Premium plans are available currently (an additional $6.99 with ads or $8.99 to skip the ads, per extra member.) Each tier offers slightly different options.

Price Increases Are Always Irritating

In October 2023, Netflix ruffled some feathers when it rolled out an earlier price increase. Additionally, that came after many people were upset when the streaming service cracked down on password sharing in April 2023. But some members road out the price shift by switching to the ad-supported tier which was announced earlier in November 2022. But Netflix isn’t the only streaming service to raise prices. In 2024, Peacock’s prices increased, as well as the cost of Disney+.

Some Netflix Subscribers Are Livid

The announcement comes after record-breaking subscriptions in response to the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson boxing match and the hit, Squid Game. Reportedly, they had nearly 19 million new subscribers over the most recent fiscal quarter. Additionally, they boast global memberships upwards of 300 million.

  • Someone else adds, “Netflix has lost the plot. $25 a month is embarrassing.”
  • Likewise, one user thinks it will drive people away, “At this point, people are just going To unsubscribe to Netflix Like the fu*k are these pricesđź’€.”
  • Furthermore, another angry member simply adds, “Morons.”
  • Additionally, another user states, “They’ve gone too far.”
