One of the new Sean “Diddy” Combs documentaries is taking a long look at his childhood. The documentary interviews people who knew Sean as a child as they discuss things that happened in his childhood that led to him becoming the man that he became. This included the idea that his mother threw wild parties that Sean attended as a young child.

Here is a look at what Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy reveals about Combs’s childhood.

Diddy’s Father Was Murdered When He Was A Toddler

One of the big things that the documentary mentioned is that Sean “Diddy” Combs’s dad died when he was a child. Tim Patterson, who grew up with Sean in Mount Vernon, New York, said that the boy he knew and the man who became Puffy are not the same person.

“I know Sean, not Diddy, not Daddy Love. I don’t know those people, I don’t know them, I swear I don’t know them, I never met those people,” Patterson said. Ron Lawrence, another childhood friend, said that Combs always wanted to be in the music business, even as a young man.

“He would tell you that ‘I’m gonna be the biggest record producer in the world,’” Lawrence recalled. “He already knew what he wanted at Howard University.”

When looking back at Sean’s childhood, his father died when he was a toddler. Melvin Combs was shot dead while sitting in his car in New York City. Sean knew nothing about his father besides what people who knew him told him. According to Combs’s former bodyguard, someone killed Melvin because he was working with an undercover cop and gave some information to him.

Sean’s mother, Janice Combs, inherited money after Melvin’s death and moved her kids to a better neighborhood in Mount Vernon. Patterson said this was when Sean changed. He began to wear jewelry and was a four-year-old in a 30-year-old’s wardrobe.

With the new money that Janice had, she began to throw large parties. The big thing Diddy is being tried for is throwing his wild parties with sex and more happening at them. His mother also threw wild parties, according to Patterson in the documentary.

“On the weekend, you partied in the house, and we did that a lot. He was around all type of alcohol, he was around reefer smoke,” Patterson said. “He was around drug addicts, around lesbians, around homosexuals, he was around pimps and pushers. That was just who was in our house.”

Combs’s attorneys were not happy with what the new documentary revealed. “This documentary recycles and perpetuates the same lies and conspiracy theories that have been slung against Mr. Combs for months,” one said (via Us Weekly). “It is disappointing to see NBC and Peacock rolling in the same mud as unethical tabloid reporters.”
