Content Creator Predicts Hallmark+ To Revert To Previous Format

A very popular and influential content creator thinks that the Hallmark+ streaming channel is a failure and predicts the feel-good network will dramatically change the service. This rebranded service just premiered in mid-September with a mix of original content including reality series like Celebrations With Lacey Chabert.
They also premiered three of The Jane Mysteries starring Jodie Sweetin and Stephen Huszar. Also, the network premiered The Chicken Sisters, and the Danube River Trilogy. In addition, the remaining content features older content including original series like When Calls The Heart, mysteries, romcoms, and more. The older content with new The Way Home and WCTH series episodes dropping on Mondays was how the original streaming channel Hallmark Movies Now worked.
Why does this content creator think that the network will revert back to their previous format?

Influential Content Creator Thinks Hallmark+ Will Revert To Old Format
When Hallmark presented at the Summer TCA2024, they announced Hallmark+. This was the rebranded streaming channel. This was going to be a few dollars more than HMN, but there would be new series, movies, reality series, and more mysteries. The premiere was set for September 10.
However, there was a lot of confusion. Many subscribers thought that Countdown To Christmas movies would be available to stream. Although this is how pretty much all linear channels operate, Hallmark+ featured its own holiday movies, series, and a reality show. That content was separate from the linear channel, and not to be aired for many months.
It was when the network announced the controversial decision to premiere The Way Home to the streaming channel, and then premiere on the linear nine months later that everything fell apart. Eventually, the network reversed its decision. Also, they made the Countdown To Christmas movies available to the streamer. What else were they going to backtrack on?
Recently, Sleepy Kitty Paw wrote on Bluesky that they believe that the network is reversing their decision with the streaming channel. The influential content creator wrote, “That Hallmark dumped full series of Ashley Williams’ streaming exclusive reality show SMALL TOWN SETUP all at once, unlike weekly rollout holiday series received, makes me think Hallmark already abandoning idea of H+ originals in favor of service being solely over-the-top play, a much cheaper option.”
After pointing out that The Chicken Sisters had not received a renewal, the prognosticator determined that this launch was a failure. However, Finding Mr. Christmas is renewed for Season 2.

Is H+ A Failure?
Sleepy Kitty Paw did not see Hallmark continuing to create new content for H+. “Vibe I’m getting is entire Hallmark+ relaunch was a disaster. I’m skeptical just from past bits & bobs I’ve heard, that it was mostly media folks calling these missed shots. Suspect corp H+ expectation not in line with reality. Frankly, nothing Hallmark’s done since has given me high hopes for future.”
Right now, there are a lot of questions, especially after Lisa Hamilton Daly’s departure from Hallmark Media. Her position as Executive Vice President of Programming was eliminated. Instead, the network is focused on what Chief Brand Officer Darren Abbott will plan for the network. The Chicken Sisters Season 2 was listed in an industry publication, but the network has not shared any news of a renewal. In addition, Mistletoe Murders fans are also waiting for Season 2 news.
Therein lies a lot of the problems with the streaming channel. There was not very clear communication about the content of the network. There is a lot of information on points and cards. However, that was also confusing and perhaps not the selling point that would get people to subscribe.
Also, despite some email mailings, the content they are focusing on what is streaming after the linear channel premieres a movie or series episode. February is less than two weeks away and subscribers are not aware if they will premiere anything new on the network.
The unfortunate detail is that the Hallmark+ content has generally been far superior to what the network has premiered on the linear channel. A lot of fans are missing out on some good television.
