Mayim Bialik Reveals Why She Doesn’t Watch ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Mayim Bialik is well-known for playing Amy Farrah Fowler on the long-running series, The Big Bang Theory. The actress admitted that she herself doesn’t really watch the series. Discussing this in an interview, the star also touched on the end of the show.
Mayim Bialik First Joined The Big Bang Theory During The Third Season
Bialik first came to prominence as a child star in the television series Blossom, playing the title character. Over the years, she’s had many notable roles, such as appearing as a Jeopardy! host from 2021 to 2023.
However, she notably had a career resurgence through playing Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory. Starting to play the character in 2010, the shy neuroscientist, who served as Sheldon Cooper’s love interest, quickly became a fan favorite. Notably, the character was a good fit for Bialik, as she also has a PhD degree in neuroscience in real life.

That said, as shared by Meto UK, Bialik herself once revealed that she doesn’t like to watch herself on the long-running series. In fact, during the 2020 interview, she admitted, “I’ve never seen most of the episodes.”
As the actress explained, “I don’t watch myself on television.” She continued, “I’ve never sat and watched an episode of our show.”
“I’ve seen snippets on stage when they would show them to the audience but no, I don’t watch myself. I saw pieces [of the last episode] but I was in it, you know?”
Bialik Also Touched On The End Of The Series
During the conversation, Bialik also revealed some of her favorite moments took place offscreen. One actor she revealed often made her laugh was Simon Helberg, who played Howard Wolowitz.
The actress noted, “Simon Helberg was one of the funniest people I’ve not only worked with but know. He would have us in stitches, so those were really beautiful times.”

Bialik joined the series during its third season and remained until its end towards 2019. However, as noted by Meaww, during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, she similarly revealed she hadn’t seen much of the series beforehand.
Although both Warner Bros and CBS showed interest in continuing the series, the sitcom ended in 2019. At the time, Bialik shared ‘The whole cast, we kind of talked about it together, but I think the reality of it ending took a long time for it to really settle in. What felt the strangest wasn’t when we finished filming in the spring, it was in the fall when we would have been going back to work.”
“It’s very surreal to be a part of a job for 10 years, which in any climate I think is really an accomplishment, but we were together not only as cast members but as a presence on the television. It’s kind of like a double identity which makes it even more complicated and beautiful.”

Bialik has also notably reprised her Amy character on episodes of Young Sheldon. Playing the character in three episodes, two episodes featured her as a voice-over role while one featured her appearing in live-action.
