‘Days Of Our Lives’ Fans Miss ‘Old’ Kristen DiMera
With long-running soaps, viewers watch characters grow and change over the years. Some villainous characters become sympathetic and vice-versa, although fans don’t always agree on which is better. Recently, Days of Our Lives fans have debated whether Kristen DiMera is still the same character they’ve grown to know.
A Few Different Actresses Have Played Kristen Over The Years
Kristen was introduced to viewers on Days of Our Lives back in 1993. The character and her brother Peter Blake were raised by the antagonistic Stefano DiMera. The siblings were the biological children of Rachel Blake, who they later learned was alive.
Over the years, the character has been part of various relationships and marriages. Two of her spouses on the soap include Andre and Tony DiMera.
The character was originally played by Eileen Davidson in 1993. She initially left the role after five years. However, Davidson would return to reprise the role over the years.
Stacy Haiduk would then take on the role in 2018. Other actresses to play the character include Linsey Godfrey, Lauren Koslow, and Arianne Zucker.
Fans have seen the character take part in various stories on the soap. On the soap’s Reddit page, however, one fan asked “Am I the only one who doesn’t even feel like we have Kristen DiMera anymore?”
One Fan Shared They Wanted The ‘Old School, Manipulative Kristen Back’
As the post continued, the fan wrote, “Kristen is one of my favorite characters.” However, they felt that, “The person onscreen now is not her. She is so different.”
“The Kristen from the 90s and even 2010s was special because she wasn’t evil. Anytime she did something villainous it was because she believed it was what she had to do to win her man or kid or whatever.”
“Now, it’s just the usual ‘oh yeah I have a serum but if Brady doesn’t go out with me I won’t give it to you guys.’ John always believed Kristen was a good person. And then in the 2010s Brady did too. She was always sneaky. Now she’s just your run of the mill villain.”
Elaborating on this, the fan shared, “The 90s Kristen would’ve faked Ava’s death in a plane crash and then been there to comfort Brady over her death. Which is another thing though, Kristen being in love with Brady is so old. It’s beneath her.”
In the end, the fan felt that, “I want the old school, manipulative Kristen back. The elegant Kristen. The sneaky Kristen.”
Taking to the comments, fans felt mixed on the issue. Some agreed, with a few suggesting they miss Eileen Davidson in the role. Others felt the character wasn’t too nuanced to start with. A few fans seemed split on the issue:
- “The writing for Kristen is the main issue for me. Either make her an insane super villain or write her as a nuanced tragic character but don’t constantly flip flop between the two.”
- “The problem is the writers cannot get another Stefano Dimera, that’s the bottom line, so they keep playing with characters see if they can even get anywhere near or keep us the audience interested”
- “I like villains and pot stirrers on shows, but if they’re over the top super villains, sometimes there has to be a tiny bit of logic that you can’t threaten to blow up the world one day and go to your daughters wedding the next.”
