Rob Mariano Talks ‘Deal Or No Deal Island’ Showmance
Rob Mariano was recently announced as the host of the Deal or No Deal Island Season 2 after show. In a recent interview, he discussed a romance he saw blossom while working behind-the-scenes on the show. He also talked about what he thinks it’s like being a contestant on the series.
Boston Rob Saw Romance Bloom On The Show, & Had A Similar Story Of His Own
Mariano, also known as Boston Rob, became known for making appearances throughout the Survivor franchise. These shows have included Survivor: Marquesas, Survivor: All-Stars, and Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. Notably, he was the winner of Survivor: Redemption Island.
Over the years, Mariano has also occasionally taken on hosting duties for various shows. Notably, he appeared as the host of the 2004 reality series, The Player.
More recently, Mariano was announced as the host of Deal Or No Deal Island‘s Season 2 after show. He had notably been a contestant during the show’s first season.
In a recent interview with People, Mariano talked about a romance he witnessed during the show’s second season. As he shared, sparks appeared to fly between Maria-Grace Cook and Storm Wilson.
Boston Rob “[wished] them luck.” As he shared, “They look like they’re into each other. And I can see how it would help them in the game.”
Mariano himself has had something of a reality show romance himself. During his time on Survivor: All-Stars, he served as the runner-up to Amber Brkich, who he married in 2003. The two have since had four children together.

However, while alliances could help on Survivor, Mariano noted Deal or No Deal Island is a different story. As he noted, “Deal or No Deal Island is different in that there’s no vote.”
“So ultimately, a lot of these relationships and alliances are unnecessary, which is kind of crazy to say or think about. The alliances help you to a degree, but they will not keep you safe. There’s a degree of luck and control that you can’t have unless you get lucky.”

With Deal or No Deal Island, contestants have a chance at $200 million. Mariano noted players should be focused on winning, though he understands that’s not always easy. He noted, “I can relate to it. I was 24 the first time I played [Survivor], and I wasn’t necessarily so focused on winning.”
Though he noted he will show players just why certain moves went wrong in the after show, Mariano also noted players can still get defensive about their choices. He commented, “Despite the result, they still sit and say, ‘I would do the same thing over again.’”
“It just speaks to people wanting to be right or happy about what they did, and they try to avoid looking at it objectively. And that’s interesting to me.”
