Natalia Grace ‘Coached To Lie’ By Former Adoptive Parents
The recent documentaries about the life of Natalia Grace have reopened the controversy surrounding her childhood. An American couple adopted her from Ukraine. However, they decided to abandon her by putting her in an apartment and then moving away, leaving her alone. She was nine years old.
Her parents were tried for abandonment but were cleared of the charges because they said they thought he was 22. That was disproven, and they did abandon a pre-teen to fend for herself. Now, Natalia said that her former adoptive mother coached her on how to lie about her age.
Natalia Grace Accuses Former Mother Of Coaching Her To Lie
The couple who adopted Natalia Grace when the child was six still claim they feared for their lives from the child. However, Natalia, now 21, said Kristine Barnett was coaching her on how to lie about her age. Natalia was nine and she said her former mother instructed her to claim she was really 22.
Michael and Kristine Barnett petitioned a court to legally change Natalia’s age from nine to 22 in 2012, just two years after they adopted the then-six-year-old girl. By having it legally changed, they could dump her in an apartment and move far away. Natalia was born in 2003, but the couple changed her birth year to 1989.
They also claimed that she tried to poison Kristine by putting poison in her coffee. They also said the child tried to drag Kristine toward an electric fence. In the new interview, Natalia asks if she looks like she could push someone twice her size into a fence.
“I really disliked being the girl who was re-aged and lived in her own apartment,” Natalia said. “I didn’t understand why I was alone; I just knew I had this instinct in me to push and survive” (via In Touch Weekly). She said that Kristine told her if she wanted to survive, she had to lie and say she was 22. Kristine also told her to let people know she tried to kill her family.
Natalia Grace Also Claims Her Former Mother Abused Her
Natalia Grace not only said that Kristine told her to lie about her age when they abandoned her, but she also said the woman abused her when she was a child. She was under 10 when they dumped her off in an apartment. Before that, she said that Kristine physically abused her more than once.
She said Kristine pepper-sprayed her in the eyes once. She also said the woman hit her with a belt. Finally, she said that Kristine gave him over the recommended dose of prescription medication and might have been trying to kill her. Kristine herself said that no one physically abused Natalia and that the girl was a “sociopath” (via Facebook).
