‘Days Of Our Lives’ EJ DiMera Shot, Sami Brady Returns
Days of Our Lives has undergone various losses and changes throughout 2024, not to mention famously celebrating its 15,000th episode. That said, viewers are about to experience a whole new year of the soap. One of the series’ crewmembers has recently teased what fans can expect.
Days of Our Lives Has Seen Many Changes Over The Past Year
Over the past year, Days of Our Lives has seen many notable moments, including the release of its milestone 15,000th episode. The series has also seen the loss of various actors during 2024, including its first Christmas without actor Bill Hayes, who played Doug Williams. Other actors who were lost over the past year included Drake Hogestyn and Wayne Northrop, who played John Black and Roman Brady, respectively.
However, the soap still has much in store for 2025. In fact, the soap will celebrate its 60th anniversary this upcoming November.
As noted by Soap Opera Digest, the soap’s head writer Ron Carlivati was replaced over the summer with a new head-writing team, Paula Cwickly and Jeanne Marie Ford. Fans can expect some new material to air this upcoming April. In a recent interview with TV Insider, co-executive producer Janet Drucker also teased what fans could expect with the upcoming year.
Drucker noted “how hard the past year has been, personally and professionally, including losing Bill, Drake and most recently Wayne, in addition to the major changes in our writing staff.” That said, she noted, “We have really settled into and are enjoying the trajectory of the show. We are truly enthusiastic about how our vision is taking shape and can’t wait to share it with our fans, old and new.”
Things Are About To Change In Salem This Spring, With Some Familiar Faces
However, fans can expect things to change in the spring. According to Drucker, the new writing team will focus on “Salem’s core family dynamics.” This includes the “Brady, Horton, Kiriakis, DiMera, and Hernandez families.”
Fans can also expect some familiar faces in the new years. Drucker noted, “We’ll see Sami [Brady, played by Alison Sweeney] and Rex [Brady, Kyle Lowder] come home for visits.” She noted that “the closer we get to the show’s 60th anniversary in the fall, the more familiar faces will appear.”

The interview also included a list of storylines fans can expect on the soap. One notable announcement included “The Who Shot EJ? mystery commences. It was teased the story would involve “most of Salem.”
Notably, EJ had been shot in a storyline years prior by his bodyguard Miguel. At the time, the character was believed to have died. However, by 2017, he was revealed to have survived. In the interview, it was also teased that EJ and Belle Black would be unable to “deny their intense attraction to one another.”
The soap also teased the new year on Instagram. As the post wrote, “Cheers to another year! Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with happiness and joy!”
