Carrie Underwood’s Shocking Idol Paycheck Revealed
When Katy Perry announced she was leaving American Idol, there were a lot of questions as to who would replace her. The producers wanted to get a big name but many performers were desperate to get into the coaching seat. It was alleged that Miley Cyrus, Jelly Roll, Taylor Swift, and more were in the running. Other Idol alums threw their hats in the ring because who better to judge than someone with personal experience? Then, it came out that Carrie Underwood was likely going to be the new judge.
She then made the grand announcement after a performance on Good Morning America. Carrie confirmed what had already been speculated and fans were thrilled. She has amassed so much success including eight Grammy awards. Furthermore, she has a Las Vegas residency, a happy marriage to Mike Fisher, and two sons. Now, she was going to launch people into their dream careers. So, how much was this new gig going to pay the superstar singer? The amount is shockingly less than what her predecessor took home which does not necessarily seem fair.

According to The Sun, Carrie Underwood will be making roughly half of what Katy Perry made. Per an insider, Katy made around $25 million per season, far surpassing her co-judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie. This means Carrie will be on an equal playing field as Lionel and Luke with her Idol salary:
“For her first year, Carrie is making substantially less than Katy. Carrie’s salary is in the $10-12 million range, so less than half of what Katy was getting.”
Of course, it won’t be like this forever. If Carrie were to stick around, she could see a significant pay jump.
Onward & Upward
This will be Carrie Underwood’s first season as an American Idol judge. However, she brings an immense amount of experience that none of the other judges have. She has lived this from the contestants’ vantage point so she knows exactly how they are feeling. Carrie can relate to their experiences from day one and every moment in between. Yet, if she opts to stick around and is welcomed back for another season, Carrie could see a pay jump:
“Depending on Carrie’s performance and how she’s responded to by the viewers, there is room to boost that number up if she were to return next year.”
Allegedly, she only signed a contract for one year but she is apparently excelling and everyone loves her at Idol. Therefore, as long as the viewers feel the same, she could be around for a very long time.
