Ryan Seacrest Looks Back On What Dick Clark Taught Him
Ryan Seacrest has been on TV for a very long time. He is the Wheel of Fortune host. He has been the American Idol host since it started. He was on a morning talk show with Kelly Ripa. He also hosts the Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve annually. In a recent interview, he explained what he learned from Clark when he was starting his work on that show.
Here is what Ryan said that Dick taught him early on in his career.
Ryan Seacrest On Dick Clark’s Advice To Him
Ryan Seacrest has been hosting the Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve since 2007. He started off as a fill-in for the legend himself after Clark suffered a stroke in 2005. However, in 2007, Ryan became the new permanent host for the New Year’s Eve bash.
Dick Clark didn’t pass away until 2012, so he and Ryan had some time to share after the switch over in the hosting duties. Ryan was talking about his time working with Dick in a recent interview and explained how the legendary TV personality helped him early on in his career as a television presenter (via USA Today).
Ryan said he would be outside while Dick was in the studio. He explained that at about 12:20 a.m., he would come inside next to him and take over from there. That was how he started out working with Dick on the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve telecasts.
He then said that Dick wanted to make sure that he earned the role, and that meant going through the hard times as well. “He would say, ‘It wasn’t cold enough for you. I want it to be windier next year for you. You haven’t earned this yet, young man.’ He would joke around about things like that,” Ryan remembered.
Ryan Seacrest Said Dick Clark Made Him Feel Welcome
While Ryan Seacrest said that Dick Clark made him prove he deserved the chance for the role, he also said Clark was very welcoming to him. He said there are a lot of things he remembers fondly about their time together.

He said that Dick Clark gave him a handwritten letter every year. This letter thanked Ryan for being there and what it meant to Clark. “Those are special,” Ryan said of the letters that Dick gave him each and every year.
Ryan Seacrest has now been the full-time host of the Dick Clark New Year’s Rockin’ Eve event for 17 years now and has hosted it for 20 (including his co-hosting duties).

Ryan Seacrest is doing a great job as host on Wheel of Fortune. I look forward to watching him every night. He is a great entertainer on the show. He is kind to all of the contestants. And he brings a wonderful energy to the show. I love the new set with the constant changes on the background. And he connects with all of the people who work on the set. It brings a more lively change. He brings more energy. I like that he has a positive influence on Vanna; she is showing more of her personality and talks more. She was too quiet previously.
