‘Bold & Beautiful’ Thomas Recast, Is Matthew Atkinson Out?
Fans of The Bold and the Beautiful last saw Matthew Atkinson as Thomas Forrester back in July. Since then, fans have wondered whether or not the actor, or even the character, will be returning to the series. Picking up on clues over the past few months, a recent episode really has fans wondering if they got their answer.
Fans Previously Started Speculating Thanks To Matthew Atkinson’s Instagram Account
Atkinson has been working as an actor since at least 2009, when he appeared in The Blind Side. One of his breakouts into soaps was in 2014, in which he was cast as Austin Travers on The Young and the Restless. Initially recurring, the character was eventually killed off the following year.
In 2019, Atkinson joined the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful as Thomas Forrester. He took on the role from Pierson Fodé, who left the soap the previous year.
Atkinson last appeared as Thomas back in July 2024. As noted by Soap Hub, there is some speculation that the character and the actor are both leaving the soap.
It was previously reported that fans previous suspected that Atkinson would be leaving the soap when the series’ name was removed from his Instagram bio. At the time, it was also believed events on the show effectively brought his story to a conclusion.
Another Clue Might Have Come Out In The December 30, 2024 Episode
Fans of the soap last saw Thomas as he left town to marry Paris. However, that still leaves room for the character to return. Behind-the-scenes, Atkinson could be seen on social media attending a Christmas party with his co-stars on the soap, suggesting he as still in contact with the series.
However, an episode airing on December 30 has given fans another reason to think Atkinson has left the series. Atkinson was no longer featured in the opening credits. Atkinson did appear in the ending credits, but his picture was also missing. This was also the case for Paris’ actress Diamond White.

As Soap Hub noted, there is still room in the series for Thomas to return, as he wasn’t killed off. However, that brings up the possibility that the character will return, just not with Atkinson playing him.
For the time being, however, there hasn’t been any official confirmation that the character has been recast. Likewise, whether or not Atkinson has officially left the soap hasn’t been confirmed, either.
