‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Not Happy With Celebrities Giving Clues

Jeopardy! has always partnered with movie studios and TV networks to promote upcoming movies and shows. Last week, they did this again to help promote the holiday horror movie Nosferatu. Some actors even gave the clues thanks to the “The Cinematic Vampire” category.

However, several fans don’t like this idea and say it hurts the show. Here is what these fans had to say.

Jeopardy! Uses Actors To Promote New Horror Movie

Jeopardy! had a special category last week to help promote the new Robert Eggers horror remake of Nosferatu. The movie is a remake of the classic German Expressionist film with a twist on the Dracula storyline. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, and the game show got Hoult to deliver one of the clues.

The category was “The Cinematic Vampire” and included clues that gave way to movies like Interview with the Vampire (starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt) and Underworld (starring Kate Beckinsale). Nicholas Hoult delivered the clues for Interview with the VampireThe Hunger, and Nosferatu.  Lily-Rose Depp gave the Underworld and Near Dark clues.

The only questions anyone got right were for Interview with a Vampire (who is Lestat?) and Near Dark (who is Kathryn Bigelow?). They missed “What is Underworld?,” “Who is F. W. Murnau?,” and “Who is Catherine Devereux?”

However, fans were not bothered by the difficulty of the clues; they were bothered by Hoult and Depp’s delivery of them.

Jeopardy! Fans Dislike Actor Clues

Jeopardy! fans bashed the idea of actors and other celebrities giving the clues. According to many fans, this takes up too much time on the show and ruins the episode’s pacing. This isn’t the first time the show has done this, and it won’t be the last.

Here is an example of what fans had to say about the use of celebrities giving clues on the popular game show (via Reddit):

  • “These upcoming movie ad categories are really tiring tbh.”
  • “The length of the clues means we don’t finish DJ and this time left a lot of cash on the board! I like Hoult, but both he and Depp appeared to be really miserable about reading these clues aloud, like someone was torturing them and forcing them to do it under duress.”
  • “They really need to punch them up if they’re gonna keep doing them. Make them shorter and spiffier. Also players could intentionally choose those clues last?”

Of course, the players missed most of them, as is usually true with anything concerning pop culture questions. It might be best to leave these for Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Prime Video.
