‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Blast Players For Missed U.S. President Clue
If there is one thing that Jeopardy! fans hate, it’s when the players all miss a question they believe was easy. This week on the show, there was one such question that ended up as a triple stumper, and it had many fans at home shaking their heads. The question involved a former U.S. President that most people thought was an easy answer.
Here is a look at the clue that stumped the players, but had fans at home shocked they missed it.
Jeopardy! Players Miss Easy Question
On Friday’s Jeopardy! episode, the players had a question surrounding the U.S. Presidents. What shocked fans at home is that they missed it. Ashley Chan, a publicist from Lewisville, Texas, was a one-day champ with winnings of $15,600. Her competitors included Carla Winston, a political scientist from Baltimore, Maryland, and Ram Murali, a writer originally from London, England.
In the first round of questions, viewers were shocked by how many triple stumpers the players failed to guess correctly. However, one missed clue had fans at home shaking their heads in disappointment. The category was “People in History.”
“An 1806 duel involving this future president resulted in the death of Charles Dickinson,” Ken Jennings read. This was a $400 clue, and not one single player could figure out that the answer was “Who was Andrew Jackson?”
The 1806 duel was a famous one between Andrew Jackson and Charles Dickinson that Jackson actually instigated. He claimed that Jackson’s wife was a “bigamist” and also accused Jackson of cheating on a horse bet. During the fight, Charles shot Andrew in the chest, but Jackson survived and shot and killed Dickinson.
Andrew Jackson suffered lifelong medical complications thanks to the gunshot wound. Despite killing Dickinson, courts did not prosecute him for the murder, and he ended up becoming President of the United States 23 years later in 1829.
Fans Can’t Believe Jeopardy! Players Missed ‘Easy’ Question
After the players missed the clue about Andrew Jackson, Jeopardy! fans at home couldn’t believe none of them knew it. Some even said that Jackson’s violent past had been part of a question in the past before.
Here is what fans had to say about the missed clue concerning Andrew Jackson (via Reddit):
- “Surprised nobody got the Andrew Jackson clue.”
- “Yes me too and I’m pretty sure Andrew Jackson’s violent history has been a jeopardy question in other episodes.”
- “Jeopardy contests should go with Andrew Jackson if there’s a clue about a President killing someone face-to-face.”
