‘Today’ Jenna Endures 5 Stages Of Grief With Hoda Leaving
Earlier this year Hoda Kotb announced that she would be leaving the Today Show in January 2025. She wishes to leave the show so that she can spend more time with her daughters. Hoda has prepared for her transition. She has relocated to the suburbs and purchased herself a minivan. Her co-host Jenna Bush Hager has had a difficult time with her friend leaving.
Jenna Grieves Hoda Kotb’s Exit
Hoda Kotb’s last day on the Today Show will be in January 2025. As the date draws nearer her co-host Jenna Bush Hager has experienced some grief over her friend leaving. During a recent episode of Today, Hoda and Jenna became teary-eyed as they discussed Hoda’s going away party. Bush Hager expressed that she wants to pay extra attention to her co-host during this period. She further expressed:
“I’m in the phase of losing Hoda called studying. I’m studying Hoda at this point, and I’d like to study your behaviors tonight and see how you’ve changed.”
Hoda looked at Jenna, laughed, and responded “You know what? I love you. I just love you.” The pair became teary as Jenna said “What’s happening? Oh, God.” Hoda lovingly responded, “I don’t know!” Jenna further explained that she is experiencing the stages of grief. She explained, “It’s the depression stage today.” She continued “I’ve already been through denial.” Bush Hager continued to laugh and cry, stating “Denial lasted a good month!”
Jenna Bush Hager Speaks Out
Jenna expressed that she has experienced other stages in the grief cycle as her friend Hoda Kotb plans to leave her position as co-anchor of Today. She said “I’ve bargained with God basically every night for the last couple months. And now, I’ve hit depression where she says one thing, and I ––” She could not finish her statement as she continued to cry. Sniffling Hoda Kotb repeated that she loved Jenna.
Hoda Kotb has been honest that this transition has been hard for her, but she desires to spend more time with her children. She said:
“It weighed a lot on me. I went back and forth and back and forth, and then I thought to myself, ‘You know, I think this decade I think I’m going to have to start choosing me.’”
The Today Show announced that Craig Melvin is set to replace Hoda Kotb. The segment Hoda & Jenna will become Jenna & Friends, where Jenna will have guest co-hosts with her until a permanent replacement can be found. Hoda and Jenna have co-hosted for a long time. This transition has been tough on both of the ladies.
