‘Today’ Al Roker Teams Up With Unexpected Guests
During a recent episode of Today’s 3rd Hour, Al Roker initially appeared to be the only regular face available to host. However, he wouldn’t be alone. In fact, he ended up with two unexpected, if still familiar, co-hosts.
One Co-Host Was In Paris, A Few Others Had Off
Today is currently undergoing a few changes. Co-host Hoda Kotb is set to leave her role on the show after spending 17 years of the program.
Craig Melvin was recently announced as her replacement. However, work recently brought Melvin to Paris to see the re-opening of the famous Notre Dame Cathedral.
In addition to Melvin being off in Paris, Roker noted that Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer had off. This made it seem like Al Roker would be the only person left to host the 3rd Hour.
However, he would soon join up with two co-hosts: Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett. Something that made the recent team-up unexpected was that Alexander and Jarrett normally host the Weekend show. As Hello! Magazine noted, Al announced, “This is a very special [Friday.]”
“I am joined by Peter Alexander and Laura Jarrett, from our friends from Saturday Today. We appreciate you guys ending our week with us. I think this is the first time we’ve all three done this.”
Al Roker Also Talked About Recent Changes To Today
Jarrett agreed, saying, “It is!” Alexander then joked, “Saturday morning breakfast sandwich right here, we just put you in the middle it’s all good.” Laura, in turn, added, “The weekend started early.”
The publication noted that Roker previously talked about Kotb’s departure. As he shared, “You know, it would be more bitter than sweet if she was ‘leaving, leaving,'” but noted that she’s “just transitioning into a different role.”

“No matter what happens, we’re going to be in great shape. Each one of us is very fortunate to be in this position, for however long we have, and then we pass the baton off to somebody else. So the future of the show is just as strong and bright no matter who steps in.”
Kotb is expected to leave the show on January 10. As she previously noted, according to the publication, “I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of the time pie that I have. I feel like we only have a finite amount of time.”
Roker is arguably best known for his work as a weatherman. He first co-hosted the third hour of Today in 2012, dubbed Today’s Take. He returned to hosting the third hour after Megyn Kelly Today had been canceled in 2018.
Meanwhile, Melvin also took to Instagram to share a photo of the Notre Dame cathedral. The official Today Instagram page also shared the post.
