Is it possible that 1000-Lb Sisters star Amy Slaton struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder?

The TLC star has overcome innumerable hurdles in her life. It’s only natural that she would carry some of the stress and baggage around. During this season, the older siblings have suggested a weight loss competition to motivate each other. However, Amy is always staunchly against the idea.

What’s going on?

Is PTSD To Blame For Amy Slaton’s Fear Of Competition?

Since the start of 1000-Lb Sisters, both Tammy and Amy Slaton admitted they didn’t have the best childhood. They turned to food for comfort to deal with the hardships, especially since their mother Darlene isn’t an emotionally warm person.

Now, some viewers think Amy’s intense fear of competition might have something to do with past trauma.

“I understand Amy when she says she doesn’t want a competition…” one 1000-Lb Sisters fan shared on Reddit. “I know Amy gets a lot of hate for this because of her attitude, but we really don’t know what Amy and the others have really been through childhood wise. I feel like Amy is holding on to a lot of PTSD with anything competition related.”

The OP went on to describe how they have similar issues with competition. In their family, every single friendly game eventually became personal.

“Now I’m not defending Amy’s behavior she definitely has room for improvement but I feel like she’s deeply holding on to a lot of PTSD and I think therapy would do her absolute wonders,” the OP wrote.

Some 1000-Lb Sisters Viewers Sympathized With The TLC Star

Other Redditors pondered over the notion carefully. Many also admitted they had complex feelings about Amy, but ultimately understood why she didn’t want to participate in a weight loss competition.

Other 1000-Lb Sisters viewers wrote:

  • I completely agree. Besides her behavior, I can understand why Amy doesn’t want a competition. The likelihood is she won’t win, & then she’ll just feel even worse about herself & have to endure jokes about not winning.”
  • “She is petrified of anything that could even be somewhat of a competition. But the way that she expresses that is off-putting”
  • “I can see where Amy is coming from as well. Competitions may be helpful towards some of the other siblings. It seems as though the siblings don’t understand that something that could be motivational and fun for them can have the complete opposite effect for other people.”
  • She would’ve put up a fight even if competition wasn’t mentioned. She doesn’t want anything expected of her. The fact she tried to use time away from cleaning her house is laughable 😂😂”
