‘GMA’ T.J. Holmes Reveals Serious Injury Update
Former Good Morning America co-host T.J. Holmes has a great love of running and marathons. However, he announced a serious injury he discovered would sideline him for a time. He found himself in pain, and the doctors revealed it was much worse than he initially believed.
Here is a look at Holmes’ injury and how long he will be out of action.
T.J. Holmes Dealing With Serious Injury
T.J. Holmes has been suffering some serious pain recently. He tried to deal with the pain but finally had to go to a doctor to see if something more serious was wrong. That is when he found out he had a serious injury, and had to stop running for a while.
“Hard words for a runner to hear: ‘You need to stop running,’” Holmes, 47, captioned an Instagram post on Wednesday. “Post-marathon pain got severe enough that I went back to the doctor who tells me I possibly have a ligament tear … or a ligament strain, at best.”
T.J. said the doctor put him in a brace and told him that he couldn’t run for the next four to six weeks. However, looking on the positive side, he said the timetable could have him ready to run again in time for the 2025 New York City Marathon.
This was a huge update after T.J. told his followers his Achilles gave out when running the 21st mile of the Chicago Marathon. “I have a left Achilles injury, but instead of trying to help the left Achilles by putting more weight on my right, my right leg is now injured,” he said about the injury.
What Made T.J. Holmes’s Injury Worse?
T.J. Holmes said he began putting more weight and emphasis on his left leg. The problem is his leg was already injured, and then everything went bad. “That’s why I fell apart,” T.J. said.

“That was something completely new to me. I thought, ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe he’s in that much pain,’” he said after being taken to the hospital. “I cannot wait to get back out there because I’m so frustrated with what happened here in Chicago.”
The New York City Marathon will take place in November 2025, so TJ Holmes will mostly want to take part in several marathons throughout the year to prepare for that big one. However, thanks to his new injury, he won’t be able to start working on his training until 2025. That is when he finishes his recovery timeline.
