General Hospital fans recently saw the departure of actress Kelly Monaco, who played Sam McCall on the soap. The actress herself, however, recently shared some light on the situation. This was in response to a post made about her departure on X.

Kelly Monaco Spent 25 Years On The Soap In Some Form

Monaco first appeared in the supernaturally themed General Hospital spin-off, Port Charles in 1999. When the series ended, she transitioned into General Hospital as McCall in 2003.

Sam recently died from a heart attack on the series. Through her passing, she was able to donate her liver. This, in turn, allowed for the revival and return of the character Lulu.

However, the actress’ exit from the series has been the subject of speculation from fans. One fan on X reportedly shared that producer Frank Valentini had a “personal vendetta” concerning the actress, causing “a hostile workplace.”

That said, not all fans agreed with this. One wrote, “[Kelly Monaco was] fired for her actions. There was no vendetta. She did this herself. She phoned in her performances for YEARS. She thought she had more power than she did.”

Fans Also Weighed In On The Issue On Social Media

However, Monaco herself ended up joining the conversation to share her side of the story. As she noted, “I do have more power than a ‘job.'”

“[It’s] my voice, my experience, my truth. You can beat someone down, until they finally find the power within themselves to recover with grace and dignity. Those whom choose to bully behind their power, will suffer their own consequences.”

As noted by The Mirror US, Monaco has tried to send messages to fans in small ways since leaving the soap. In one of her final scenes, she made the “I love you sign” with her fingers while playing Sam. Monaco later confessed this was not in the script, but something she did for fans.

On the soap’s Reddit page, fans responded to Monaco’s own response. Some felt more information was needed.

One user wrote, “All she does is vague post. Wake me when she actually has tea to spill.” Another defended her, writing, “I think she isn’t going to until she is definitely under contract somewhere else.”

Still, some users were sympathetic to the situation. As one wrote, “I hope she [wasn’t] bullied or [harassed] at GH but in the meantime, either say something or say nothing! I do hope she finds a new project that she can be excited about and whatever it is, i will check it out.”
