‘DOOL’ Kristian Alfonso Reveals Sad Regret After Bill Hayes Death
Kristian Alfonso is back on Days of Our Lives. The Hope actress is one of several stars to return to the daytime soap this month. Sadly, the return was due to a real-life tragedy. Bill Hayes died, and the show is now honoring him with Doug’s death on the soap opera.
With her return, Alfonso also said that she has had to deal with one great regret that haunts her to this day. Here is what Kristian said she wishes she could have done before it was too late.
Kristian Alfonso Returns To Days Of Our Lives
Kristian Alfonso has returned to Days of Our Lives as Hope Brady. The return was bittersweet, though, as Hope made her return after Doug’s death on Thanksgiving Day. Bill Hayes, the actor who played Doug, died on January 12, 2024, at 98.
The episode was a sad moment for fans who had followed Bill’s portrayal of Doug for all these years. He had played Doug Williams on Days since 1970. His marriage to Julie Olson (Susan Seaforth) was one of TV’s first super couples, and the two actors even married in real life in 1974.
Susan Seaforth-Hayes said in character as Julie that it was time to “say goodbye.” The episode also included a shot of Hope putting flowers on her dad’s grave. However, while Alfonso returns as Hope to say goodbye to her on-screen dad, the actress says she has one great regret involving Bill Hayes.
Kristian Wanted One Last Storyline With Bill Hayes
Kristian said she wanted one last storyline appearance with Bill Hayes before he died. The actress first appeared on Days of Our Lives as Bill’s daughter, Hope, when she was 19.

“I remember exactly where I was when I got the call,” Kristian says (via Soap Opera Digest). “I was in the car and I was on my way home and it was raining and I found myself not being able to make my way home…. I was just driving around because I couldn’t believe it.”
She said the show called her to have her return as Hope for the episodes surrounding his death. Kristian said they didn’t have to do that, but it was nice that they did.
However, she also said she regrets that she didn’t get to film more episodes with Bill before his death. Bo and Hope were on their way back to Salem when the tragedy occurred where their son Shawn shot Bo, who ended up in a coma.
“I will never get over that I didn’t get the opportunity [to play that] because I would have had scenes with Bill and Susan together as a family,” Kristian said.
