CBS Rejects Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2024
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is set to make its 2024 return. However, the parade isn’t going to be covered by CBS this year. In fact, the network already has what it plans to air lined up on the holiday.
CBS’ Current Schedule Doesn’t Include The Parade
The first parade took place in 1924, proving to be such a success it became an annual event. The event would first be televised in 1948.
Over the years, viewers have been treated to balloons of familiar characters, Broadway-style performances, and even an appearance from Santa Claus. For many viewers, this symbolically marks the start of the Christmas season.
NBC is often considered the official broadcast home of the parade, having first aired it in 1953. That said, CBS has also aired its own broadcast feed.
However, CBS is not planning on airing their own coverage of the parade this year. At this time, the network hasn’t given an official reason as to why it won’t cover the parade this year.
According to Just Jared, CBS already has its schedule lined up. The network is planning on airing their morning show, CBS Mornings. The network will then air an episode of the game show, The Price is Right. It will then cover the upcoming Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions game.
Viewers Can Still Expect A Lot Of Returning & New Attractions
The parade will officially begin on November 28 at 8:30 AM, conlcuding at 12 PM in all timezones on both NBC and Peacock. An encore telecast will also ait at 2 PM.
While not broadcasting the parade, CBS News has still covered what fans could expect in the upcoming parade. As the publication noted, the parade will feature a Disney Cruise ship float, complete with a Captain Minnie Mouse. Dora the Explorer is also expected to appear on a new float.
Another float will feature characters from Netflix’s Wednesday. According to the publication, Brendan Kennedy, Macy’s Studios’ director of creative production, shared, “She’s playing a joke on her little brother, Pugsley, and sending him down the parade route in a sheet pan of rotten vegetables.”
Some of the year’s new balloons will feature Marshall from PAW Patrol and Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse. Some of the popular returning balloons include Spider-Man and Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise.
As noted by Broadway World, the NBC broadcast is expected to include performances from shows like Death Becomes Her, Hell’s Kitchen, and The Outsiders. The broadcast will also include a performance from the Radio City Rockettes.

Note that the episode of “The Price is Right” will be a repeat of last year’s Thanksgiving episode, which aired the day before Thanksgiving. Also, because of the NFL game that starts at 9:30 Pacific, and the fact that there is a college basketball game following it on CBS, it will not air in the western half of the country.
I am very disappointed with the decision by CBS not to show the Macy’ Thanksgiving Day Parade. My husband and I have been watching its all of our lives. We have an older tv with a converter box and an antenna which does not bring in NBC. It would be nice to have a vote. I would prefer that football be taken off the air. It is so tiresome!
My thanksgiving was ruined because they did not broadcast it. It makes thanksgiving real along with football been a staple in my family for years I think them woke people have had a say to make them not air it that are so against everything and they want to erase history
