‘GMA’ Denzel Washington Says Michael Strahan Is ‘Finished’ Amid Controversy
Hollywood leading man Denzel Washington recently said that Good Morning America celeb Michael Strahan was done at the popular talk show amid recent controversy. So, is Strahan officially out of a job?
Good Morning America: Michael Strahan In The Middle Of Big Controversy
As much as Good Morning America fans love Michael Strahan and the energy he brings to the set, the former NFL player found himself in the middle of some hot water recently. This recent controversy happened during a Fox NFL Sunday special that was on television.
During the broadcast, when the national anthem played, while Strahan did stand for it, he did not place his hand over his heart while doing so. Strahan faced a firestorm of backlash online, with many commenters saying that what he did was “disrespectful.”
GMA: Strahan Apologizes For Offending Viewers
While it could have been worse, it was not a good look for Michael Strahan. This is especially true because, while he did not place his hand over his heart during the national anthem, his other colleagues did.
Michael Strahan has since apologized for this incident, as he meant no disrespect. However, many Good Morning America viewers have been speculating that he could get the boot from his gig as a result of this recent incident.
With the climate how it is today, it’s certainly plausible that someone like Strahan could lose his job over this. So, there is good reason as to why this has been a popular topic since everything went down.
Denzel Washington Going After Michael Strahan’s Job?
In a behind-the-scenes clip shared by the Good Morning America Instagram account, viewers see Denzel Washington sitting in one of the chairs on set. He cracked several jokes about Michael Strahan being “finished” on the show, even hinting that the legendary actor was gunning for Strahan’s seat.
Denzel Washington has been in the middle of a press tour, as he has been helping to promote his new film, Gladiator II. Based on this recent clip, Denzel is always the jokester, as he made this jab at Strahan just as he has been in the hot seat.

- One commenter said: “Denzel is in a happy place Loving this press tour!”
- Another commenter chimed in, saying: “Denzel Washington is so funny! Love him so much as a human being. Great segment GMA.”
- A third person added: “Loved this watched more than once, made my Friday morning.”

It has never been protocol to place your hand over your heart for the anthem. That is for saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Look at his intentions, people. He clearly respects our military men and women.
Agreed
I totally agree with all here…
I am going to be 63 in two months and have always put my hand over my heart, as did those in the events we attended.
I believe it was just natural when I began doing it and not because anyone was doing it. When I first did it it was because I immediately felt pride in my country as soon as our Great country’s anthem began to play. To hear it blaring in person is very powerful.
That being said, that could be a community, cultural, etc. type of situation whether someone does it or not.
It has been my experience where I grew up and the communities I lived in that it was just an unspoken pride gesture and not a rule, policy, or law. It is not important enough to me to get offended about, when I can spend that time and energy discussing more urgent issues.
I stand with Michael Strahan he didn’t stand for whatever reasons I’m respect that y’all got some nerve to judge him when that fool will be going in the white house in January talking bout he the president..
It’s pure disrespect to NOT place your hand over your heart. What does Trump have to do with this?
Not for the anthem. We only stood for the anthem. Hand over heart is for pledging.
how is it disrespectful?
What does Trump have to do with this???
The fool is the one that think this topic has anything to do with President Trump.
Mary, get a grip! Placing your hand over your heart does mean you’re a great person. People are so caught up in the wrong thing. Solidarity for your country means doing great things for people, which is what he does. Life is about humanity. That’s
not why Jesus died on the cross. Fight about the economy, civil rights better food for people to eat.
He stood he just didn’t put his hand over his heart and a lot people apparently thought he should have.
I don’t think it matters because it’s the anthem. we never did anything except stand for the anthem.
People are getting ridiculous.
You are so right!
Speak truth to power!
i stand with Micheal too they always have something to say but they are stupid enough to vote for a felony.
I agree with Angela. Standing shows respect. I don’t see people putting their hand on chest for anthem. So minor to having a felon and sex afender for president!
Where does it say put hand over heart during national anthem? Pledge of Allegiance? Absolutely. Very few people do this. It’s made up outrage.
He did stand,he didn’t put his hand over his heart but that’s not a thing that’s required or the norm my entire 46yrs so idk what peoples issues are
I totally agree… Enough said!!
I agree why do some people make a big deal out of nothing. GET A LIFE
I agree but many people in our country forgot that jan 6th was a move only traitors did.
Amen, it’s not disrespectful to lead an insurrection though🤦🏾♀️
Clown. Go look up the word insurrection, and then riot!
he disrespected the veterans he shouldn’t have been there and should be fired
His father is a retired Army Colonel. He grew up as a military dependent. Has nothing to do with veterans or military.
I’ve never placed my hand over my heart for the National Anthem. Men should take their hats off though. The hand over heart is done for the pledge of allegiance.
bs you are a dummy
he should stay were he’s at
I agree Laura !!!!!
I understand what People are saying, ” However”… Is that what makes America unique and Great!? We all have the right to Exercise Our American Right to “Free Speech” …Even if it is Exercised by Not Participating in the National Anthem…
thank you. Michael deserves no criticism.
if this is what y’all have have to bitch about y’all need to get a life. wtf. bunch of losers here. Who the fick cares. if you’re not bleeding from this leave it alone.
This country is full of shit!
I wholeheartedly agree.
it seems like no disrespect was intended. Do people have nothing better to do than to try and destroy each other over absolutely nothing?
Now Open your mouth real wide. Because you just said a mouthful thank you. That’s it and that’s all.
being a disabled veteran i bring an understanding of Michael’s action. respect of our country and our flag and what it represents means alot to the ideals of America thru out the world. I did not find Michael’s action to be right out there wow disrespectful. I think it was a lapse. he could have been feeling off, maybe pain I. his joints fights prevented him from raising his hand to his heart. maybe! the man did stand out of respect… he did not take a knee. so let us ne thankful for that. being disabled service connected there are times I cannot raise my arm, move my hand correctly. so I will hope age, illness, arthritis, pain prevented his hand to move to his chest.
Standing for the National Anthem is proper, putting your hand over your heart is only traditional for The Pledge Of Allegiance.
Get a life people, other people’s lives ought not to be shaped by what you feel or think, whether a public figure or not. This man has been through hell and high water dealing with his daughter’s illness and her you hypocritical people come with the BS. STOP! FULL STOP! Honor God, not the flag!
Honor YOUR COUNTRY!
this is a made up controversy & not communist China.
👏👏👏👏
Amen..well said
Say it Ms Shirley
I agree. I hate to see one famous Black man saying something negative about about another black man, especially when that man is struggling with a young daughter who has cancer. Please Denzel, apologize.
amen! so we’ll said and Denzel, that was a low blow ( crabs in a bucket)!..Smh, this man meant d
no disrespect and his mind was probably on his daughter far from a damn flag
While I agree that no disrespect was intended by Michael, the following is the official protocol for the National Anthem.
§171. Conduct during playing
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
(June 22, 1942, ch. 435, §6, 56 Stat. 380; Dec. 22, 1942, ch. 806, §6, 56 Stat. 1077; July 7, 1976, Pub. L. 94–344, §1(18), 90 Stat. 812.)
That’s good to know, but nobody that I know does that. We just stand.
We’re only human and are bound to make mistakes at some point in our lives. Sure there are protocols, but unless you were taught the rules and practiced it every day in school when growing up and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as I did before, hand over the heart gesture will not be second nature. I know Strahan felt the respect in his heart.
Amen
I think this is where the expression “face the music” comes from by the way.
I and just about every African-American person in the United States right now don’t have respect for the flags because America took greed over humanity when they elected that man back in and I’m supposed to salute the flag and you can’t respect me as a person really
There you go, I don’t know what this country was thinking putting him back in, has everybody forgotten what happened already? I served my country and for Orange Man to call all who did suckers and losers, that should automatically disqualify him from being commander in chief of this country. PERIOD!!!
Amen!!
agree!!
I do not see a problem with him not placing his hand over his heart as long as he was standing.
Serving in the USMC, in a war, I fought for the freedom and equality that are the basis of this country. This means you don’t have to stand or kneel. You don’t have to be Baptist or Budhist. If you are telling someone else what they must or must not do, you are violating the freedoms of this country.
I don’t believe he was being disrespectful, that Being said he doesn’t have to stand ,what if he has back problems or leg problems, my dad is a veteran and I don’t stand
thank you…. that sounds right to me
He was NOT disrespectful! People get a life! Geez
That’s ridiculous to lose his job over this But the players can take a knee is ok? Thats disrespectful to our Country but since they are protesting they get away with it. Strahan has has been going through a lot with his daughters health Maybe he just wasn’t thinking
are we going to fire all the camera men who didn’t even bother to stand, but continued filming away?
Why do people give a f,,, if anyone kneels, sit , stand while that shit plays , the music has little to do with how the American people feel toward other people
