Savannah Guthrie And Richard Gere Reunite
During the November 20 Today Show, Richard Gere was discussing his upcoming political TV series with Savannah Guthrie. It is a Showtime thriller called The Agency. Undoubtedly, Savannah has great respect for Richard. She mentions the 35th anniversary of Pretty Woman being right around the corner. Likewise, Richard was featured in a montage of his previous visits on the Today Show with Savannah. They laugh easily together and the interview flows well. Richard gushes about wanting to spend more time talking with her but knows it isn’t “allowed.” She discusses his big move to Spain very soon with his family. But during their reunion, Richard takes her off guard and she immediately begins to censor his obscene gesture.
Savannah Guthrie Censors Richard Gere, Why?
When Savannah Guthrie introduced Richard Gere’s newest TV series, they aired a clip of The Agency. Richard plays the CIA London station chief. Today offers viewers a “first look” at the intense thriller.
Once the video cuts, Savannah begins the interview, “Richard Gere, good morning…” But he interrupts her train of thought when she notices he is flipping her off on live TV.
Immediately, she stammers, “What did you just do…” and swats his hand with her papers. Then, he playfully motions in different directions to try and dodge her “censoring” tactics. Savannah chases his movements saying she is attempting to “bleep” him since it is a family-friendly show. But the 75-year-old defends his actions by explaining what was missing from the clip. He innocently states, “You didn’t show but that’s what I did in the piece.” Jokingly, appalled, she says, “You just did an obscene gesture on this family morning show. I’m bleeping you!” His hand was later blurred out to keep it friendly.
Richard Gere Calmly Justifies His Gesture
Baffled by the upside-down world, Savannah Guthrie admits, Cher was on the Today Show the day before dropping “F-bombs.” As she feels like it is the Wild West, she adds, “I don’t know what’s happening.” Richard Gere clarifies, “Oh, no, no, no…That’s what the clip was.” Savannah exclaims, “But we cut that part out!” Then, Richard emphatically says, “I could see that.” Furthermore, shocked, Savannah says, “But then you did it live.” However, Richard justifies his expression by saying, “But it didn’t make any sense without that.” Both Savannah and Richard laugh and she asks, “That was the first time you’ve seen that though?” Then, he says he avoids looking at himself, jokingly saying “Even in the mirror.” But Savannah points out that the premiere is on November 21, and he will have plenty of opportunity to see how the series looks.
The Agency will debut the first two episodes of the espionage thriller series streaming and on-demand on November 29 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
