Fans Relate To Vannessa Cross’ Mental Health Struggles
During Sunday night’s episode, Vannessa described how she was starting to feel self-conscious about her hair. After she received bariatric surgery, it had grown thinner and started falling out. The TLC star made an appointment with a professional to try on wigs.
Most people struggle with anxiety and self-conscious thoughts, but 1000-Lb Best Friends viewers agree it’s incredibly noticeable with Vannessa. The once loud and proud TLC star seems to be retreating into her shell.
“Anyone missing Vannessa’s [confidence]? No I don’t criticize her,” one 1000-Lb Best Friends viewer posted on Reddit.
The OP went on to share their own story regarding weight loss. When they were overweight, they didn’t struggle with confidence at all. But after losing weight and keeping it off, the OP grew obsessive about their looks and weight. It made them feel sad to realize Vannessa was struggling with the same issues.
“I can see that in V too. Like she was beaming with [confidence] before at a larger size, and now she is self-conscious. … I wish someday I can stop caring about food and my weight/body so much. It’s just people treating me so much better than when I was overweight, y’know?” they concluded their post.
Redditors Share Their Own Stories After Sunday Night’s Episode
In the comments, many other Redditors shared similar stories. Many noted that it was so easy to assign self-worth to a silly number on a scale.
1000-Lb Best Friends viewers sincerely empathized with Vannessa during Sunday night’s episode.
Other Reddit comments included:
- “I lost 100lbs and developed bad body dysmorphia. No matter what anyone said I still saw that bigger version of me when I looked in the mirror. For the longest time I regretted the weight loss because my mind told me that at least when I was bigger I was ‘filled’ in, after losing the weight I felt like a deflating balloon. 😔
- “I totally get what you mean. I think for me I put up a front that I was confident when I was large. I still dressed nice, did my hair, wore make up but I look WAY better now in every aspect yet I still feel unhappy some days.”
- “I often wonder when my self worth became attached to a number?”
