‘1000-Lb Sisters’ Are Tammy & Amy Taking Advantage Of Siblings?
Over the years, 1000-Lb Sisters fans have watched the family grow and change. As of the current season, each sibling has received bariatric surgery and proudly lost tremendous weight as a result. However, they each have their personal struggles and challenges.
Tammy and Amy Slaton have been the primary focus of the show since Season 1. Fans love getting to know their siblings too, but there’s been an escalating problem over time.
Fans think Tammy and Amy severely take advantage of their older siblings.
1000-Lb Sisters Fans Think Tammy & Amy Need To Be More Independent
When Tammy Slaton weighed over 500 lbs, there wasn’t much she could do on her own. But now, her siblings are trying to encourage her to be more independent. But instead, she and Amy keep picking fights with each other and their older siblings.
Amanda Halterman and Tammy aren’t even on speaking terms this season.
“Tammy and Amy refuse to see how much help their siblings actually provide,” a viewer posted on Reddit recently. “BOTH Tammy AND Amy’s inability to acknowledge how much their siblings actually do for them is the most frustrating part of this show. Realizing that now any time they need to leave their house requires someone to come and pick them up and bring them home is an annoyance I can’t begin to imagine.”
The OP went on to cite specific instances, such as Tammy’s refusal to drive. Amanda Halterman also frequently posts on TikTok, revealing how much the entire family does for Tammy and Amy.

“I can’t see Tammy or Amy being willing to provide half the assistance their siblings provide to them without issue or complaint,” they concluded the post.
Other Viewers Offer Their Own Opinions
Other 1000-Lb Sisters viewers readily agreed, but they all cited different reasons for the sisters’ poor behavior. Comments included:
- “They’ve enabled them all this time and this is what they end up with. Be careful how you raise your children, yeah then some independence or you’ll wind up raising them all your life.”
- “Finally someone’s talking some sense around here. I thought I was watching a different show from everyone else with the way everyone was saying Tammy would be better off going off on her own.”
- “When Tammy said she has no house to live in because of Amanda! My jaw dropped. It’s unreal. And if she had any self-awareness or appreciation she would have apologized to Amanda and thanked her for the roof over her head.”
- “I would love to have a tight circle of siblings. Tammy/Amy don’t see how blessed they are as that fact makes up for sooooo much.”
