‘Deadliest Catch’ Shares Sad Fate Of F/V North American
Fans of the Deadliest Catch have wondered about the fate of the sunken vessel of the F/V North American. After the vessel sunk earlier this year, some fans feared the worst while others hoped it could be saved. Someone connected to the vessel recently gave fans an update on social media.
A ‘Close Friend’ Answered Deadliest Catch Fans’ Questions
Back in May, news came out that the North American vessel sunk at a dock at the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle. Fans of the Deadliest Catch may remember that the vessel was featured in the show’s fourth season. In addition, fans may remember Sten Skaar as its captain.
On the show’s Reddit page, someone who claimed to have special inside information on the vessel shared gave an update on the boat. They opened up the post answering a few frequently asked questions.
The original poster used the username, “Clam70.” As the user shared, “I’m a close friend of the family of the North American and was supposed to be a deckhand on the North American this summer for the tendering session.” As the poster explained, this was their second update on the sinking.
First, the user addressed what caused the vessel to sink. Reportedly, “a hole in one of our double bottom tanks” caused water to leak into the boat. Eventually, it filled the tank, causing the bulkhead to crack. Because of that, water also leaked into the engine room.
In addition, there was also the issue if the ship could still be salvaged. Unfortunately, the user shared that, “In our current financial situation, it is most likely not, and it really hurts me to say that.”
One Fan Saw The Vessel Was Up For Sale
However, it was noted that the boat was up for sale. It was explained, “Insurance dubbed it a loss. We do not have the finances to salvage the boat and get it running again, unfortunately.”
The post also made sure to add, “Thank you to anybody who has shown support. Me and Sten are very grateful for you guys.” Fans were encouraged to ask questions in a possible follow-up. The post was ultimately signed “Sten, Travis and Cameron.”
In addition, one user noted that they saw the ship on “Dock Street Brokers” and believed it was sold. They then asked for a further update about what’s planned for the upcoming vessel.
The original user claimed to not have many updates beyond what they’re able to find online. As they also noted, “I’m guessing it was probably purchased by some Corporation or company out of the states one of our big issues here is Shipyard time is very expensive. In addition, it was also added “that boat is going to need a lot of time in the shipyard to be running again.”
