Exclusive Interview: John Christian Plummer On Hallmark Mystery’s ‘Five Gold Rings’
John Christian Plummer is a well-known Hallmark mystery screenwriter who all Sleuthers know because of the Mystery 101 series. Now, the talented scribe has written a new holiday mystery Five Gold Rings starring Holland Roden and Nolan Gerard Funk. This holiday movie is premiering on Thursday, November 7, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on Hallmark Mystery.
TV Shows Ace thanks John for this Exclusive Interview about his upcoming Miracles Of Christmas movie. In addition, the talented screenwriter talks about some new mysteries for 2025. Sleuthers will also enjoy his recommendations on which mysteries he recommends reading or watching.
John Christian Plummer On What Hallmark Mystery’s Five Gold Rings Is About
Five Gold Rings Is a mystery. Do you care to share something about this holiday mystery?
It’s a mystery, set before Christmas, but there’s no murder like in my other Hallmark work! Instead, it’s about a young woman tasked by her late grandmother with finding the owners of five mysterious gold rings. She teams with her old friend, a private investigator, and they go on quite an odyssey because it’s really not one mystery they have to solve, but five!
Who Is Audrey Moss, Holland Roden’s Character In Five Gold Rings
Please tell us about artist Audrey Moss, portrayed by Holland Roden. She lives in New York but comes home to Minnesota for the holidays.
Right, Audrey grew up in a small town in Minnesota, not far from the Twin Cities. She’s a painter who now lives in New York City, but after the passing of her beloved grandmother, she’s lost the inspiration to paint. She comes home for the holidays to be with her mom, but then gets caught up in this unexpected quest from her grandma.
John Christian Plummer On The Core Of The Mystery
In one of the previews, they show the five gold rings. They are all different types of rings. Also, in the second preview, Audrey talks about making multiple snowmen, all different. Is this a clue to this mystery?
Haha! Great question, and spoiler alert: no. There isn’t a big puzzle around numbers in this one. It’s a much more humanistic and human-level mystery about people and their lives, dreams, wishes, and loves.
Sleuthers Should Expect New Mystery Island Movies
Do you have any projects that you care to share?
Yes, I have three sequels to Mystery Island coming next year! Stay tuned!

Signed, Sealed, Delivered Star In Mystery Island Sequel
I saw Kristin Booth’s IG Story post that she was filming Mystery Island. Can you share anything about that?
Yes, they’re shooting now and I hear they’re having a wonderful time bringing scripts to vivid life. It’s such a fun world and the characters and premise provide great mystery along with lots of laughter.
What Mysteries John Christian Plummer Is Reading And Watching
What are you watching now in the mystery genre? I am engrossed in Moonflower Murders. I just watched Magpie Murders. Very Agatha Christie-like from Anthony Horowitz.
Love love love Horowitz. I’d read both books years back. The adaptations are sublime. I’m more reading than watching, just read Jayne Atkinson’s Death At The Sign Of The Rook, which is superb, and I’ve begun Richard Osman’s We Solve Murders. While not a whodunnit, the best show on television that has a lot of mystery aspects is Slow Horses. I’ve read all Mick Herron’s books and look forward to the new series, Down Cemetery Road, about an amateur sleuth and a private detective in Oxford.
Be sure to catch the premiere of John’s latest mystery, Five Golden Rings on Thursday, November 7, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on Hallmark Mystery.
Sleuthers can now stream John’s popular mysteries on Hallmark+ including all of the Mystery 101 series, Mystery Island, and Francesca Quinn, PI.
