Christina Applegate Details Stabbing Pain Of ‘Invisible Disease’
Viewers got to know Christina Applegate as comically ditzy, Kelly Bundy on the long-running sitcom, Married…with Children. That launched her into the role of Sue Ellen in the cult favorite, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. She also had her own shows, Jesse and Samantha Who? followed by Dead to Me. Then, in 2021, she was diagnosed with MS but that was not her first health crisis. In 2008, Christina learned she had breast cancer, something her mother had, as well. Both ladies survived which was a blessing but the MS has been far more challenging.
The pain is almost constant but Christina has joked about it in appearances. When she got a standing ovation at the Emmys, she noted that it was almost an insult that everyone could stand while she needed a cane. Furthermore, she is down to go out and have fun but lets her friends know in advance that she may have to cancel last minute. That is what MS is- it is the unexpected and sometimes, she just cannot rally. Now, according to People, Christina is sharing how the pain has gotten even more debilitating.

She spoke on her MeSsy podcast, which she co-hosts with Jamie Lynn Sigler:
“I lay in bed screaming — like, the sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing.”
Along with Sigler, Christina Applegate had on fellow MS warrior, Rory Kandel. Kandel shared this of the pain they experience with the disease:
“It feels like I have knives in my stomach. Like, I’ll be laying in bed, and I wake up, and I physically can’t turn from side to side.”
Christina went on to add that it was the “worst.” Kandel shared that the hardest part was that they looked fine so Christina responded:
“Because it’s the beauty of the invisible disease.”
Bedridden Times
One of the hardest parts for Christina Applegate is that she is stuck in bed most of her day. However, she feels that she is lucky because she worked most of her life so the break is worth it and well-deserved:
“I just lay in bed all the time. I mean, I worked for almost 50 years, so I’m like, I’m kind of okay with it.”
Sometimes, Christine admits that she cannot even touch the ground with her feet. She often compares it to feeling like lava:
“I put my feet on the ground and they’re hurting, like, extraordinarily bad to the touch. I was like, yep. Gonna get back in my bed and pee in my diaper because I don’t feel like walking all the way to the damn bathroom. I actually don’t lay here and pee in my bed diaper. That’s just a joke.”
Christina notes how hard and painful it is but she does allow herself grace which is a beautiful thing. She should give herself the time and patience she needs because this is not an easy situation by any means.
