Wally Kurth Reacts To GH Co-Star Kelly Monaco’s Firing

Wally Kurth stars on both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital. He was among the Days stars attending this year’s “Day of Days” fan event. Us Weekly approached the soap star to ask his thoughts on Kelly Monaco’s firing. While the characters of Ned and Sam didn’t interact often, Wally Kurth had much respect for his co-star.

“I work at GH sometimes too, and I drove into the studio and there was a sign with LCD lights that said, ‘Kelly Monaco, bring her back’ and it was like outside our studio, just flashing lights for like a week and that was from fans,” he shared about efforts from fans to get Kelly Monaco rehired.

While Wally Kurth was sympathetic, he said that getting let go is the reality of working in soaps. “It happens to us all. I’ve been fired a few times. You can’t take it personally. We’re actors.”

DOOL Stars Weigh In

Days Of Our Lives star Martha Madison agreed with Wally Kurth, despite her own history. She was fired from DOOL several times, including earlier this year. But she revealed at “Day of Days” that she’s heading back to the Peacock sudser.

“I think as actors you have to remember you’re supposed to be unemployed at certain parts,” Martha Madison told Us Weekly.

It’s always shocking when a soap star is fired after years of playing the same role, especially if they’re as beloved by fans as Kelly Monaco was. Do you agree that getting fired comes with the territory of working in soaps?
